The Role
QA Engineer to own test strategy and automation for a React-based web front-end. The role will also involve occasional manual testing of a cross-platform mobile SDK (Android & iOS), with mobile test automation as a possible future direction — but the primary focus is web.

Core Responsibilities
Design, write, and maintain automated test suites for the React front-end (unit, integration, and end-to-end tests)
Read and understand React component code well enough to test it effectively (props, state, hooks, component structure) and write targeted tests, not just black-box UI scripts
Build and maintain CI/CD test pipelines so automated tests run on every PR/build
Define and grow test coverage strategy and quality gates for the web app
Investigate, document, and file clear, reproducible bug reports; work with engineers to triage and verify fixes
Contribute to test plans and acceptance criteria during feature planning
Occasionally perform manual testing of the mobile SDK (Android & iOS) — functional and regression testing across devices/OS versions
(Roadmap, longer-term) Help evaluate and potentially build automated testing for the mobile SDK

Requirements

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer who blends deep manual QA craft with strong automation engineering and a forward-looking command of AI-assisted testing. You will own quality of our web (SaaS) product end-to-end - shaping test strategy, building and maintaining automation frameworks in Java across UI and API layers (including GraphQL), and pushing the team's adoption of AI tooling to ship faster without sacrificing quality.

What You'll Do

• Own end-to-end test strategy: exploratory, functional, regression, integration, and cross-browser testing
• Build and maintain automated test suites using Selenium WebDriver and/or Playwright for Java; API automation with RestAssured against REST and GraphQL endpoints
• Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines keeping suites fast, reliable, and low-flakiness
• Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate test authoring and maintenance while upholding code-review standards
• Evaluate and adopt AI test-generation and self-healing tools where they deliver real ROI
• Test AI/LLM features: evals, prompt regression suites, hallucination and safety checks, and reliability metrics for non-deterministic outputs
• Investigate defects with rigor: clear repro steps, root-cause hypotheses, tight collaboration with developers
• Champion shift-left testing, risk-based prioritization, test data management, and observability for tests

Qualifications

Must-Have:

• 5+ years of QA experience with strong manual testing foundation: test design, exploratory testing, bug advocacy, sharp eye for edge cases and user impact
• Selenium WebDriver and/or Playwright for Java; Page Object / screenplay-style frameworks, stabilizing flaky suites
• RestAssured for API testing (contract, integration, negative-path); OpenAPI/Swagger fluency
• Hands-on GraphQL: queries, mutations, schema changes, partial responses, error shapes, reusable test utilities
• Strong Java (11+), Maven or Gradle, JUnit/TestNG, Git
• Command line comfort: bash/zsh and/or PowerShell for navigating environments, running tests, and writing automation glue
• Log-digging: grep/jq/awk, Kibana, Splunk, Datadog, CloudWatch — isolating root causes from messy traces
• Basic Docker and Kubernetes: running containers locally, exec-ing into pods, kubectl logs/describe, debugging tests in containerized environments
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI — integrating tests and triaging failures at scale
• Hands-on AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of daily delivery rhythm
• Excellent written communication: bug reports, test plans, explaining quality risks to non-technical stakeholders

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience evaluating or building eval/regression suites for LLM-powered features (prompt versioning,
• golden datasets, LLM-as-judge, hallucination/jailbreak tests).
• GraphQL tooling depth: Apollo, GraphQL Inspector, schema diffing, or fuzzing for breaking changes.
• Performance testing (JMeter, k6, Gatling) and basic load/scalability awareness.
• Security testing fundamentals (OWASP Top 10).
• Visual regression tooling (Percy, Applitools, Playwright snapshots).
• Familiarity with cloud browser grids (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, LambdaTest) and broader Kubernetes
• operations (Helm, kustomize, service meshes).

We are looking for a strong Java-focused SDET who is comfortable working close to the application code. Not only a test writer, but someone who can design and extend automation infrastructure. Able to understand how another application consumes the SDK / DevKit and convert those flows into stable integration tests.

Comfortable debugging complex Java behavior, reading production code, and discussing implementation details with developers.

Strong enough technically to help choose and implement the right Swing UI automation approach.

• Responsibilities:

  - Design, implement, and maintain Java-based integration tests for a geoscience data management application.
  - Simulate real product usage through the application's SDK / DevKit layer.
  - Analyze SDK-level calls from consuming applications and convert them into automated integration test scenarios.
  - Create and maintain unit tests using JUnit and related Java testing tools.
  - Validate data retrieval, consistency, error handling, and compatibility across database-backed workflows.
  - Contribute to the design of a Swing UI automation approach for Windows and Linux.

• Mandatory Skills Description:

  - Strong hands-on experience with Java.
  - Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, clean code principles, and maintainable test architecture.
  - Experience with JUnit, AssertJ, Mockito, or similar Java testing tools.
  - Solid experience designing unit/integration/E2E tests for complex Java applications.

Core Responsibilities

Typical Requirements

Experience

4+ years of hands-on experience in QA with a strong focus on automation.

Proven experience in mobile test automation (iOS/Android).

Experience working with applications built on Flutter is highly desirable.

Solid understanding of SDLC, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and quality engineering principles.

Technical Test Automation Skills

Strong expertise in mobile automation frameworks:

Appium / WebdriverIO (mobile) / Detox / Espresso / XCUITest or similar.

Experience testing Flutter applications, including understanding of widget-based UI and common testing challenges.

Strong knowledge of UI automation (Playwright / Selenium / Cypress is a plus, but not primary).

Hands-on experience in API testing:

Postman / Newman / REST Assured or similar tools.

Proficiency in at least one programming language:

Python / Java / JavaScript / TypeScript.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile testing:

Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, including running tests on emulators or device farms.
