Head of Media Buying

$4000-6000
Product

ROIcamp is a media buying team that works exclusively with the dating vertical. The parent company has been building and monetizing dating products since 2011; the team is 40+ people and fully remote. We buy traffic on Meta, Google, TikTok, push and native placements, and we measure ourselves on paying users rather than on leads.

About the role

For fifteen years the company bought traffic project by project, until that structure became a constraint on growth. ROIcamp is the answer: a dedicated traffic brand, and you are its first hire. You will build the media buying department from zero, with backing few startups get.

In-house dating products have run since 2011, while account farming (the team that registers and warms up ad accounts), creative and analytics already operate as separate departments. Budgets need no investor sign-off. Your scope covers source strategy, hiring team leads and buyers, unit economics and the department P&L. You report directly to the owner, with no layers in between.

What you'll do

  • Draft the hiring plan and assemble the department: team leads per source, middle and senior buyers, close integration with farming and creative.
  • Set source and GEO strategy, with Meta as the core channel (~70% of dating traffic comes from it) and Google and TikTok added when the numbers justify it.
  • Build the department's unit economics around the click โ†’ registration โ†’ activation โ†’ subscription โ†’ rebill funnel (rebill is the recurring charge on a renewed subscription): spend, revenue, cohort LTV, P&L planning.
  • Establish a testing rhythm: hypothesis, creative delivered in 24โ€“48 hours, test, and a scale decision against fixed criteria.
  • Agree SLAs with farming on account queues, cross-team priorities and reserves for ban waves.
  • Build reporting and dashboards with analytics: daily cuts per buyer, weekly cuts per team, and a monthly P&L for the owner.
  • Design the buyer compensation grid on the formula Bonus = % ร— (revenue โˆ’ spend โˆ’ consumables), keeping it transparent and market-competitive.
  • Defend quarterly budget frameworks with the owner, then allocate those budgets inside the department yourself.

Requirements

  • 4โ€“6+ years in media buying, including 2+ years leading a team of 5+ buyers.
  • A record of profit at $100k+/month in spend, reviewed together on real cases and numbers.
  • Dating vertical experience specifically: you understand subscription and rebill economics, not cost per lead alone. Backgrounds limited to nutra, sweepstakes or gambling are not a fit.
  • First-hand knowledge of Meta infrastructure: account farming, agency accounts, moderation and ban waves.
  • Experience hiring buyers and building reporting people actually use to make decisions.
  • P&L thinking: you can tell the owner where every dollar went and what it returned.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on Google Dating & Companionship certification.
  • An industry network: buyers, service providers, direct advertisers.
  • Experience launching a department or a channel from zero.

What we offer

  • A mandate to build the department your way: structure, people, sources and processes are your calls within agreed frameworks.
  • Budgets from a company that has earned on dating for 15 years, with no investor pitches or funding rounds to wait for.
  • Farming, creative and analytics already running as separate departments, so you connect to them rather than build them.
  • Fully remote work on a B2B or gig contract, the same terms as the team you will hire.
  • Base salary plus a percentage of department profit, paid on a fixed date every month.

Growth path

The next level is CMO scope: all paid channels of the company, plus influence on product strategy through buying data. Once the department reaches stable profit, a wider mandate is a question of numbers, not internal politics.

Compensation

$4,000โ€“6,000 base plus a percentage of department profit. Profit is calculated transparently as revenue minus spend minus consumables; your share follows a grid fixed in a written offer. Payouts land on a fixed date every month.

Hiring process

A 30-minute screening call, an interview with the owner, and a numbers-based strategy review on real inputs we provide, followed by an offer. The full cycle takes up to 10 business days. We sign an NDA before discussing product details in depth.
