PHP Team Lead ( Laravel)

We are looking for a Backend Team Lead to lead one of our teams. This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership and team management. If you enjoy building high-load systems and growing strong engineering teams - this is the right challenge for you.

Tech Stack: PHP 8, Laravel, MySQL, ClickHouse, Redis, Docker, AWS, SQS, WebSockets, Sentry, NewRelic.
 

Your Responsibilities:
 

1. Team Leadership

• Lead and Develop the Team: provide technical and organizational leadership for a team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and result-oriented environment.
• Mentorship & Coaching: support team members through regular feedback, mentoring, and knowledge sharing, helping them grow both technically and professionally.
• Performance & Development: participate in performance reviews, define development goals, and support PDP execution.

2. Delivery & Project Execution

• Execution Ownership: ensure predictable and high-quality delivery across the full development lifecycle - from planning to release.
• Task Coordination: work closely with PM to plan sprints, distribute tasks based on skills and capacity, and maintain healthy workload balance.
• Risk Management: identify delivery and technical risks early and proactively address them.

3. Technical Leadership

• Hands-On Development: actively participate in backend development - coding, reviewing, and designing solutions for complex and high-load systems.
• Architecture & Quality: contribute to architectural decisions, ensure technical consistency, stability, and scalability of the platform.
• Problem Solving: collaborate with team members to analyze and resolve complex technical challenges.
  
   

4. Communication & Cross-Team Collaboration

• Stakeholder Communication: act as a key communication bridge between the team, HoD, PM, and other Team Leads.
• Team Ceremonies: lead (together with PM) sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and technical discussions.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: work closely with QA, DevOps, Product, and Analytics teams to ensure smooth and efficient delivery.

5. Quality & Engineering Standards

• Best Practices: promote and enforce best practices in coding, testing, documentation, and release processes.
• Code Quality: ensure code meets quality, performance, and maintainability standards through code reviews and technical guidance.

6. Continuous Improvement

• Process Improvement: drive improvements in team development processes, tooling, and workflows.
• Innovation Culture: encourage engineers to suggest improvements and experiment responsibly.

What We Expect From You

• Experience: 5+ years of commercial backend development experience, with at least 1 year in a technical leadership role.
• PHP & Laravel Expertise: deep understanding of PHP, Laravel, and backend architecture.
• Team Leadership: proven experience mentoring developers and leading a development team.
• Databases: strong SQL knowledge, query optimization, and working with large volumes of transactional/analytical data.
• API & Integrations: experience with REST, WebSockets, and complex third-party integrations.
• Async & Queues: hands-on experience with message brokers (SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar).
• Infrastructure: practical experience with Docker and Linux environments.
• Observability: experience with logging, monitoring, and tracing tools (Sentry, NewRelic, DataDog, ELK).
• Communication: strong communication skills and ability to align technical decisions with business goals.
  
   

It Will Be a Plus
 

• System Design: experience with DDD, microservices, or event-driven architectures.
• Tech Breadth: experience with Golang or Node.js.
• AI-Assisted Workflow: experience with AI coding tools. We welcome a smart approach to AI to streamline complex tasks, from architectural design to documentation, development, and code refactoring.
• Analytics: experience with ClickHouse or other analytical databases.
• Process Ownership: experience improving development processes, metrics, or delivery predictability.
