Jobs Engineering Manager

About the role

We’re looking for someone who owns delivery — not tracks it, not reports it, owns it.

You’ll be responsible for a specific area: games, features, or platform work. From the first conversation about a requirement through to production — you’re on the hook for the whole thing.

This isn’t a coordination-only role. We need someone with previous hands-on software engineering, DevOps, release engineering, or similar technical experience who can actively improve and automate the way software is built, tested, and released.

You set the timeline, track it, and communicate changes before people start asking questions. If there’s a blocker, you’ve already seen it. If a release isn’t ready, you say so — clearly and early.

You’ll look at how work flows through your area and fix what’s broken. Not just follow whatever process exists. You’ll design something that actually works, iterate on it, and make it better over time.

A key part of the role will be identifying manual steps, bottlenecks, and failure points in development and release workflows, and then building practical automation to remove them. This may include improving CI/CD pipelines, automating release checks, connecting tools through APIs, and developing scripts or lightweight internal solutions.

Quality is yours too. Not QA’s problem alone, not the tech lead’s problem. You own release readiness: is it tested, is it documented, does anyone know the operational risk. If the answer is no, it doesn’t ship.

You’ll work closely with product, engineering, QA, and client-facing teams, keep them aligned, and report directly to the VP of Delivery.

What we expect from you

First 30 days

• Understand how delivery actually works in your area — not how it should work, how it actually works
• Map where work gets stuck, what the recurring blockers are, and who the key people are
• Meet everyone who matters: product owners, tech leads, QA, release managers, client teams
• Write up what you found and share it with the VP of Delivery

First 60 days

• Take ownership of delivery tracking for your area
• Pick the biggest workflow problem you found and start fixing it
• Show you can catch a blocker before it causes a delay — at least twice

First 90 days

• Own and communicate a delivery forecast that stakeholders actually trust
• Ship at least one release with no last-minute surprises — quality gates passed, documentation done, everyone aligned
• Present your view on how delivery should work in your area going forward

What we’re looking for

• 3+ years in an engineering delivery, software delivery leadership, or similar role where you owned outcomes, not just process
• Previous hands-on experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Release Engineer, Build Engineer, Developer Productivity Engineer, or in a similarly technical role.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, including builds, automated testing, versioning, deployment, monitoring, and rollback.
• You catch problems early. Not because you’re lucky, but because you know what signals to watch
• You’ve worked across engineering, product, and QA and you know how to keep them moving together
• Strong communicator — you can give a clear, honest delivery update to a VP without needing a slide deck
• You care about quality beyond closing tickets — release readiness, testing coverage, operational risk are things you think about naturally
• You’re genuinely interested in the product you’re delivering, not just the process around it
• You actively look for repetitive manual work and replace it with reliable, maintainable automation.

Nice to have

• Background in iGaming, gaming, or another regulated product environment
• Experience in a B2B or multi-operator delivery model
• Familiarity with incident management and post-mortems
• Experience working with external studios or third-party development partners
• OKR-based planning and how it connects to delivery cadence
• Jira or similar tooling — configuration, not just usage

What we offer

• Real ownership and direct impact — you’ll see the results of your decisions in production
• Direct collaboration with the VP of Delivery in a team that’s being built deliberately
• Space to design and improve delivery processes, not just execute someone else’s playbook
• A fast-moving product environment where delivery quality is taken seriously
• Competitive Salary: We offer a competitive salary, subject to annual performance reviews.
• Quarterly Bonuses: Benefit from a transparent and systematic quarterly bonus system.
• Unlimited Paid Vacation: Enjoy unlimited paid vacation leave, including Ukrainian bank holidays.
• Unlimited Paid Sick Leave: Take unlimited paid sick leave whenever necessary.
• Flexible Schedule: We offer a flexible work schedule to accommodate your needs.
• Remote Work: Choose to work remotely, providing greater flexibility and comfort.
• Medical Insurance: Receive comprehensive medical insurance for both you and a significant other.
• Financial Support for Life Events: We provide financial support during special life events.
• Professional Development: Get reimbursement for professional development courses and training.
• International Exposure: Attend industry expos, team gatherings, and global meet-ups

estaie is the AI-native extended-stay platform for 15 to 365-night stays. We connect hotels, holiday homes, channel managers, PMSs, payment providers and other travel systems through intelligent inventory, pricing, search and distribution infrastructure. We operate globally, with hubs in Dubai and Riyadh. Our AI layer powers dynamic pricing, agentic lead generation, smart inventory orchestration and autonomous operations for operators, corporate bookers and digital nomads alike.

Location: Remote-first (MENA time zone alignment required: at least 8 hours per day overlapping with Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4)
Reports to: Nimit Solanki, CTO & Co-founder
Leads: Forward Deployed Engineers (Integrations)
Type: Full-time
Shape of the role: roughly 50% people and delivery leadership, 50% hands-on engineering

THE ROLE

You will build and lead our Forward Deployed Engineering team: the engineers who connect estaie to the hospitality ecosystem and make those integrations work in production. You own how the team works, what it ships, and the quality bar it holds.

You are also one of the team's strongest engineers. You take real integration and AI work yourself, review PRs, debug production issues alongside your team, and lead by example rather than from a dashboard. You partner directly with the CTO on architecture and technical strategy, and with product, sales and partnerships on what gets built and when.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead the FDE team

• Hire, onboard and grow a remote team of Forward Deployed Engineers, and set clear expectations on ownership, quality and pace.
• Run delivery across many partner integrations at once: prioritise, unblock, and keep commitments to partners realistic.
• Coach engineers on integration design, debugging across systems, clean code and working directly with partners.
• Run 1:1s, give direct feedback, and build a culture of accountability, async collaboration and written decisions.

Stay hands-on

• Write production code in TypeScript, Python and SQL, and own some integrations end to end yourself.
• Review PRs and set the engineering standard for testing, observability and documentation.
• Join the hardest partner debugging sessions and production incidents, and lead the post-mortems.

Own the integration platform

• Design the patterns every integration follows: authentication (including OAuth 2.0 token refresh), signed webhooks, retries with backoff, rate limiting, idempotency and error handling.
• Own the canonical data model that normalises inventory, rates and availability from partners with different schemas.
• Make sure we never oversell: concurrency control on inventory, handling of out-of-order and late events, and reconciliation jobs that catch drift with external systems.
• Build the shared tooling that makes each new integration faster than the last: mock partner servers, contract tests, onboarding tools, dead-letter queues with replay.

Bring AI into production safely

• Lead the use of LLMs and agents across integration workflows, such as mapping messy partner data, operational copilots and automation.
• Set the guardrails: structured output with schema validation, human review for low-confidence results, eval sets as CI gates, and least-privilege tool access for agents.
• Keep AI cost and latency under control with queues, rate limiters, caching and model routing.

Reliability and partners

• Own uptime, security and performance of the integration layer across regions and environments.
• Act as the senior technical contact for key partners, channel managers, PMSs and payment providers.
• Feed what you learn in the field back into product and platform priorities.

TECH STACK

• Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, TailwindCSS; Laravel and Vue.js on parts of the core platform
• Backend: Node.js / NestJS, Python (FastAPI) for AI and data services, REST APIs and webhooks
• Data: PostgreSQL (with pgvector), MySQL, Redis, BigQuery, Datastream
• Async and events: BullMQ, Pub/Sub, Kafka / Redpanda
• AI: Vertex AI (Gemini, Claude), LangChain, embeddings and vector search, agentic workflows
• Infrastructure: GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud Build, IAM, Secret Manager), Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions
• Security and edge: Cloudflare (WAF, Zero Trust), OAuth 2.0, JWT
• Observability: Cloud Logging, Prometheus, Grafana, alerting and anomaly detection
• Integrations: Channel managers, PMSs, OTAs and supplier APIs; payment gateways such as Stripe, Tamara and Checkout.com; WhatsApp Business API and Twilio

WHAT YOU BRING

• 8 to 12 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineers in a high-growth startup, SaaS or platform company.
• You still code. Strong, current hands-on skills in TypeScript (Node.js / NestJS, React / Next.js), SQL and PostgreSQL, plus working Python.
• A track record of building and running third-party integrations in production: webhooks with signature checks, idempotency, retries, rate limits, and data sync or reconciliation.
• Solid grounding in distributed systems: transactions and concurrency, queues and event-driven design, out-of-order events, and fault tolerance.
• Production experience with LLMs, including how to evaluate them, constrain them and keep their costs in check.
• Cloud deployment experience with Docker and CI/CD, ideally on GCP.
• Experience leading a remote, distributed team with an async, written culture.
• Professional-level English: you can run a technical call with an external engineering team and turn it into a plan, and write clear documentation, PR reviews and post-mortems.
• Bias for action. You debug, document, automate and measure, and you care about products that work, not just systems that run.

NICE TO HAVE

• Hospitality, hotels, holiday homes, travel-tech, fintech, marketplace or other integration-heavy background is an absolute plus and will be weighted heavily.
• Hands-on experience with channel managers, PMSs, OTAs, reservation systems or payment gateways.
• Experience building or leading a forward deployed, solutions or integrations engineering team.
• Kafka / Redpanda, OpenSearch / Elasticsearch, pgvector, Terraform.
• Experience in the GCC markets, and Arabic language skills.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

• First 30 days: learn the platform and our live integrations, ship your first production change, and meet our key partners.
• By 60 days: own at least one integration end to end, and agree the shared integration standards (auth, webhooks, idempotency, testing) with the team.
• By 90 days: have the FDE hiring plan running, a delivery rhythm the team and partners trust, and clear reliability metrics for the integration layer.

WHY JOIN ESTAIE

• Build and shape a new team from the start, at the frontier of AI-native hospitality.
• Work directly with a founding team from Careem, Grab and Deutsche Telekom who value clarity, velocity and ownership.
• Real-world complexity: partners and systems across the global hospitality ecosystem, with your work reaching production fast.
• Flat, product-driven culture with strong engineering autonomy and end-to-end ownership.
• Competitive compensation and founding-team ESOP potential.
• Remote-first, or hybrid from our hubs in Dubai and Riyadh.

COMPENSATION NOTE

The total compensation for this role is capped at a maximum of USD 2,000 per month (gross, all-inclusive). This ceiling is firm, so please apply only if it is acceptable to you. Payment is made in USD or another international currency.

We're a 20-person team building a browser-native scientific data platform used by Novartis, J&J, Daiichi-Sankyo, and other top pharma and biotech companies. Our platform was already 10x faster than the competition and delivered more value for less — even before the AI era. Now, we're taking it to the next level.

We're competing with Spotfire, Certara, Dotmatics, and Schrödinger — and winning. How? By building faster and smarter. Our engineering team has fully embraced AI-driven development (Claude Code, agentic workflows, AI-assisted testing), and it's become our biggest force multiplier. We ship in weeks what used to take quarters.

We're looking for an engineering leader who's already living this way — someone who has hands-on experience with agentic development tools and can help lead a team that's pushing the boundaries of what a small, focused group can deliver. You'll report directly to the CEO and have real authority to shape how we build.

What you'll build and lead

This isn't a "manage meetings and write status reports" role. You'll own critical product areas and ship alongside the team. Here's what's on the roadmap:

• AI-powered agentic workflows — Autonomous scientific agents that utilize Datagrok's plugins and integrations as tools.
• Automated testing at scale — Automatic scenarios using Playwright + AI, AI-driven bug reproduction and fixing, stress tests, unit tests, system health tests, plugin tests - everything integrated into CI-CD and managed by AI
• Platform evolution — Cross-application integration and eventing mechanicm, ClickHouse as an analytical backbone, high-performance computations
• Enterprise integrations — Databricks connectivity (ADBC/Arrow for 2–10x speedups), HuggingFace model integration, and dashboard importers for Tableau and Spotfire migrations
• DevOps and infrastructure — ArgoCD deployments, Docker image management, containerized dev environments, and OpenTelemetry observability across a multi-layer stack
• AI-powered knowledge graph — mapping source code, features, tests, docs, and Jira tickets to enable impact analysis and agentic development workflows across the entire codebase
• Process improvements - code reviews, better planning/outcome system, DX improvements, onboarding for new developers

What we're looking for

Must have:

• You've already adopted autonomous agentic development in your own workflow (harnesses, tool-use architectures, AI-driven testing, etc)
• 5+ years as a strong engineer who still codes. This is a hands-on position
• Experience leading a team (formal title matters less than demonstrated leadership)
• Proficiency in TypeScript or Dart; comfort picking up new languages fast. Our core stack is Dart and TypeScript, with C++/WASM, Python, R, Julia, and Matlab in scientific plugins
• Track record of delivering complex software products — not just managing people who do
• You see a problem, you fix it. You don't write a proposal about fixing it. You don't wait for permission
• Strong communication skills and fluent English — you'll work directly with technical clients at pharma companies and present to enterprise IT teams

Strong pluses:

• Life sciences, cheminformatics, or bioinformatics background (or genuine curiosity about this space)
• Experience building agentic AI systems — not just prompting LLMs, but designing autonomous pipelines, harnesses, tool-use architectures, or AI-driven testing frameworks
• Background in high-performance computing, data visualization, or scientific computing
• Startup DNA — you've built things from zero, worn multiple hats, and thrive without a playbook

What we offer

• Real ownership — reporting directly to the CEO, you'll lead critical product areas for a platform deployed at top-10 pharma companies, not maintain someone else's legacy code
• An AI-first engineering culture — we're not "exploring AI adoption." We've already made the transition. You'll help take it further
• Direct client impact — your work will be used daily by scientists doing drug discovery at companies you've heard of
• Startup speed, enterprise clients — the autonomy and pace of a small team, with the validation of Fortune 500 deployments
• Fully remote, zero bureaucracy, flexible hours, unlimited PTO
• Competitive compensation with growth equity opportunity
• Paid training and certifications

❗️This is not a classic PM role❗️ We are looking for an embedded or robotics engineer who grew into delivery leadership. You read firmware and C++ fluently, draft baseline architecture yourself, and talk to CV and hardware engineers as a peer. Your focus is technical delivery of systems where software meets hardware.
