Role Summary

Full-time Lead QA Engineer for IRL’s flagship Location-Based Multiplayer Mobile Game: SLAP.

Position Overview

Integrated Reality Labs is building an exciting integrated reality mobile app that enables massively multiplayer tag-based games in the real world. The real-time, multi-player & real world aspects of SLAP present unique challenges to ensuring SLAP is consistently stable and bug-free. These challenges can only be overcome through rigorous technical and manual testing informed by a working understanding of mobile networking, BLE, UWB, and GPS.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lead QA / Test Engineer to join the IRL team, who possesses both technical & manual testing acumen, previous experience or deep understanding of networking & GPS, and experience managing a distributed team of Junior-QA Engineers.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, including the ability to write test cases and review code for errors, excellent investigation + problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous improvement. As a Lead QA Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the game's functionality, performance, and overall user experience meet our rigorous standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the QA team -  share knowledge, best practices, standards & expectations, processes, and testing methodologies.
• Build and develop automated QA processes from the ground up.
• Collaborate closely with the development team to understand game features, mechanics, and technical aspects to ensure effective testing strategies.
• Develop comprehensive test plans and test cases for various game components, including gameplay mechanics, network interactions, UI/UX, audio, and visual elements.
• Execute manual tests to identify bugs, glitches, and other issues in the game's functionality and user interface.
• Verify multiplayer gameplay functionalities, including matchmaking, server interactions, player synchronization, and data consistency.
• Perform compatibility testing across different mobile devices, operating systems, and screen resolutions.
• Monitor and track reported issues using bug tracking systems, and ensure timely and accurate communication of bug reports to the development team.
• Work closely with developers to reproduce, isolate, and debug issues, providing clear and detailed information for efficient resolution.
• Perform regression testing to ensure that previously identified issues have been successfully fixed without introducing new problems.
• Participate in the design and execution of performance and stress testing to evaluate the game's stability under various conditions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on gameplay, user interface, and overall user experience.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in both technical and manual QA testing of location based mobile applications. (Multiplayer Testing experience preferred.)
• Understanding of mobile game development processes, multiplayer networking, and gameplay mechanics.
• Proficiency in using bug tracking and test case management tools.
• Familiarity with mobile device specifications, operating systems, and working knowledge of the impact that OS versions + device variations may play in application development, performance, and testing. 
• Ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor, and as a team leader.
• Strong English communication skills to articulate issues clearly and concisely to the development team.
• Knowledge of automated testing tools and scripting languages is a must.
• Previous experience with game development, scripting, or programming is a bonus.
• Ability to lead complex technical investigations where problem-solving skills and attention to detail will be determinative of success..
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. (Preferred but not required)

We are looking for a Senior Performance Engineer to take full ownership of performance, scalability, and stability of our global web-based platform, deployed on-premises or in the cloud and serving thousands of concurrent users worldwide. This is not a project role - performance engineering here is a continuous discipline embedded across the full development lifecycle.

You will be the single accountable owner for system performance: setting the standards, building the tooling, enabling teams, and ensuring that as our product complexity, user volumes, and business programs grow, the platform scales predictably and without regression.

Responsibilities:

• Performance Ownership. Define and maintain performance SLAs/SLOs, own system-wide KPIs (latency, throughput, concurrency, stability), and serve as the primary point of accountability for performance across every release
• Load & Scalability Engineering. Design, implement, and continuously evolve a comprehensive test suite covering load, stress, and endurance/soak scenarios. Model realistic usage patterns specific to our domain - large BOM navigation, product structure queries, search and filtering, change and release workflows and validate scalability for large tenants and peak program conditions
• Backend & Infrastructure Performance. Analyze and optimize across the full stack: application server behavior (JVM tuning, thread pools, memory management, GC), database query plans, caching effectiveness, and network/storage I/O. Work closely with infrastructure, database, and platform teams to drive improvements
• Global Performance Optimization. Identify and address regional performance disparities, analyze WAN latency and API behavior for globally distributed access, and contribute to architectural decisions around caching strategies and data locality
• Tooling & CI/CD Integration. Build and maintain an open-source performance toolchain. Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines, implement automated regression detection, and enforce release gates based on performance criteria
• Observability & Root-Cause Analysis. Establish and operate observability infrastructure using open-source solutions. Lead deep root-cause analysis on latency spikes, memory leaks, throughput degradation, and long-running stability issues. Support production incidents where performance is a factor
• Cross-Team Enablement. Partner with development teams to embed performance thinking into design and implementation. Run training on performance anti-patterns and optimization techniques, and deliver actionable insights - not just reports.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in performance engineering
• Proven experience with on-premises enterprise systems and cloud environments
• Strong expertise in web application performance and REST/API performance testing
• Proficiency in Linux system diagnostics and low-level performance analysis
• Practical experience with open-source performance tooling: k6, Gatling, JMeter, or Locust
• Experience with observability stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Sentry
• Engineering mindset: capable of building, owning, and evolving systems, not just running tests
• Ability to operate independently and drive results across teams without close supervision
• Upper-Intermediate/Advanced English level

Nice to have:

• Background in PLM, ERP, or other large-scale enterprise platforms
• Experience working with complex data models and large object graphs (e.g., Bill of Materials hierarchies)
• JVM profiling and tuning experience, particularly for Java-based backend stacks
• Track record of integrating performance testing into CI/CD pipelines and enforcing automated quality gates

• Тестування симуляції: ручне, функціональне та інтеграційне тестування Unreal Engine симуляції — сцен, сценаріїв, камер, поведінки об'єктів, фізичних моделей, level streaming та API-взаємодії.
• Регресійне тестування: підготовка, запуск і перевірка тестових сценаріїв для валідації стабільності, повторюваності та коректності симуляції після змін у сценах, логіці, фізиці, інтеграціях або білді.
• Валідація середовища: виявлення flaky tests, регресій, нестабільної поведінки, performance degradation та проблем із repeatability.

• Дефект-менеджмент: виявлення, опис, пріоритизація та трекінг дефектів у Jira. Взаємодія з інженерними командами для відтворення проблем, перевірки фіксів і контролю якості змін.
• Документування: підготовка test cases, checklists, regression packs, описів сценаріїв перевірки, known issues та статусу якості перед релізами, демо або інтеграційними перевірками.

• 2+ роки досвіду в QA. Досвід тестування складних технічних продуктів: ігрові рушії, симулятори, robotics, embedded, autonomy, computer vision або hardware-related software.
• Розуміння базових принципів Unreal Engine або готовність швидко зануритись в UE-based середовище. 
• Досвід роботи з Jira / Confluence / Notion або подібними інструментами. 
• Вміння чітко описувати проблеми: steps to reproduce, expected / actual result, logs, screenshots, video, build version. 
• Уважність до деталей, структурний підхід і здатність доводити проблему до зрозумілого engineering-level опису.
