Role Overview

The Research Portal — one of the internal products — is a web-based application with over 10,000 current users developed for the entire research community to review, monitor, and manage research portfolio. The main goal is to unite distributed and complex organizational processes into one application and help alleviate administrative burdens. 

Responsibilities:  

• Serve as the go-to expert for Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure Data Factory across all production and pre-production environments, keeping things running smoothly and jumping in when they don't. 
• Provide Tier 2/3 troubleshooting support, diagnosing and resolving database and application issues in real time so the team and end users aren't left waiting. 
• Own query optimization and index tuning/maintenance to keep database performance tight, including proactive analysis to catch problems before they become incidents. 
• Manage and maintain high-availability configurations including Log Shipping, Always-On Availability Groups, and Backup/Restore with Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and maintain database systems, ensuring high availability and reliability tailored to each end user’s role
• Implement databases aligned with specific user information needs and operational requirements
• Define user permissions and facilitate precise data distribution, ensuring timely and accurate access
• Leverage high-speed transaction recovery techniques and establish regular data backups to ensure data integrity
• Minimize database downtime, tuning parameters to maximize query performance and responsiveness
• Provide both proactive and reactive data management support to ensure uninterrupted operations
• Develop, enforce, and document comprehensive database policies, procedures, and standards

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience: Proven background in database administration, IT, database architecture, or a related field
• Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with database standards and end-user applications
• Data Integrity & Security: Strong knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity protocols for SQL or NoSQL engines
• System Proficiency: Experience with GNU/Linux server environments
• Database Design: Familiarity with database design principles and documentation practices
• Programming Knowledge: Basic familiarity with programming languages

Design and operate a high-performance SMTP infrastructure that achieves reliable inbox placement, even when working with HTML-rich content and more sensitive filtering environments.

Scope & Volume

• Monthly sending volume of approximately 400,000 to 800,000 emails
• Focus on consistent inbox placement at scale, not just initial setup
   

What You’ll Do
 

• Build and manage a scalable, VPS-based SMTP infrastructure
• Optimize inbox placement for German mailbox providers, including GMX, Web.de, and T-Online
• Configure and maintain:
   
  • SPF, DKIM, DMARC
  • rDNS, HELO, and MX records
• 
   
• Plan and execute structured IP and domain warmup strategies
• Monitor and manage IP and domain reputation
• Analyze deliverability performance, including:
   
  • Bounce patterns
  • Throttling behavior
  • Spam filter responses

Your Profile

• Proven hands-on experience in email deliverability and infrastructure
• Strong technical background in SMTP, DNS, and server environments
• Familiarity with European mailbox providers, ideally German freemail systems

Key Requirement
