Senior Laravel Backend Developer - Modern Accounting SaaS (Akaunting Fork)

We're building a modern accounting SaaS, think QuickBooks, but genuinely nice to use.

The stack is a forked Akaunting (Laravel) core with a custom Next.js frontend built by a separate dedicated frontend engineer. Your job is everything behind the API: extending Akaunting's models, building clean endpoints, handling accounting correctness (multi-currency, VAT, reports), integrations, and deployment.

We work AI-native- Claude Code, Cursor, and modern tooling are part of daily flow for maximal efficiency and speed.

Requirements:
Production Laravel, strong PHP 8+ and MySQL, sharp REST API instincts, and real comfort reading and extending large existing codebases (Akaunting is ~100k lines — greenfield-only devs won't enjoy this). You use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as part of daily flow. Written English good enough for async work. Big pluses: Akaunting/Invoice Ninja/ERPNext experience, fintech or accounting domain knowledge, double-entry bookkeeping familiarity, EU VAT exposure.
