2D Spine Animator

We're an indie studio (US-registered LLC) building a mobile sandbox / dress-up game in the spirit of Avatar World and Toca Boca โ a colorful, kid-friendly world where players customize characters, explore locations, and act out their own stories.
The Role
2D Spine Animator for character and interactive object animation. You'll bring our characters to life: building rigs, base animation cycles, and expressive animations that players interact with every day. Format โ part-time / hourly or per-task basis: the initial scope is substantial (rigging the core character cast), followed by regular but smaller task packages.
Stack & Style
- Spine (Professional) โ rigging, mesh deformations, skins, IK
- Chibi characters in the style of Avatar World / Toca Boca โ soft, "bouncy" animation, no realism
- You'll receive production-ready assets: our 2D artist delivers layered PSDs with clear separation of body parts and clothing elements
What You'll Do
- Rig characters in Spine with skin system support (interchangeable outfits, hairstyles, accessories โ no re-rigging required)
- Base cycles: idle, walk, run, emotions, object interactions
- Animations for interactive objects and props in locations
- Export and optimization for Unity (spine-unity runtime): atlases, naming conventions, bone/mesh budgets
- Close collaboration with our Unity developer and 2D artist
What Matters
- Solid experience rigging and animating characters in Spine (portfolio required)
- Strong grasp of animation principles: timing, weight, squash & stretch, secondary motion
- Experience with mobile projects and an understanding of runtime performance optimization
- Nice to have: experience with spine-unity, casual or kids' projects
