About the Company

Our client is a leading subscription e-commerce company operating in the consumer brands space, headquartered in New York. As part of their strategic transformation, they are evolving their technology ecosystem into an AI-native platform and are looking for a highly experienced architect to drive this initiative.

This is a key backfill position within a distributed engineering organization, offering the opportunity to influence the company's technical direction and shape next-generation AI-powered systems.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior AI-Native Solutions Architect / System Architect who can think beyond traditional software development and design scalable, intelligent systems powered by modern AI technologies.

You will lead a small engineering team, work closely with the Director of Engineering, and take ownership of architectural decisions related to AI agents, backend infrastructure, security, and platform scalability.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve large-scale distributed systems with an AI-native architecture approach.
• Lead architecture decisions across backend services, AI orchestration, and platform infrastructure.
• Design and implement AI agent ecosystems, including agent orchestration, tool integration, memory management, and workflow automation.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small engineering team.
• Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to define technical strategy and execution plans.
• Establish architectural best practices, security standards, and scalable development processes.

• Oversee infrastructure design and environment setup while ensuring reliability and security.

   

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior System Architect, Solutions Architect, or Principal Engineer.
• Strong architectural mindset with the ability to design complex systems and drive technical strategy.
• Hands-on experience building AI-native solutions and working with:
  • AI agent orchestration
  • Agent tooling and skill development
  • Memory management systems
  • Modern AI application architectures
• Strong backend engineering background with:
  • Java
  • PostgreSQL
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, security tooling, and environment management.
• Familiarity with platforms and services such as Cloudflare or similar security solutions.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Ability to work with at least 4 hours of overlap with New York (EST).

Nice to Have

• Experience with Rust.
• Previous experience leading or managing small engineering teams.
• Background in high-scale e-commerce, SaaS, or subscription-based platforms.

• Experience implementing AI systems in production environments.
