Azure Cloud / Platform Engineer

We are seeking an Azure Cloud / Platform Engineer to support the infrastructure and platform layer of a modern AI-driven application.
Despite the common title, this is not a traditional data engineering role (no BI, no reporting, no heavy ETL pipelines).
This role focuses on cloud infrastructure, system integration, and deployment. Core Azure environments (Dev / Test / Prod) are pre-provisioned by the client. This role configures and wires services within those environments. It does not stand up the cloud footprint from scratch.

Job requirements
 

Azure Cloud Expertise
• Hands-on experience with:
o Azure App Services / Functions / Container Apps
o Azure Blob Storage
o Event Grid (topics, subscriptions, and BlobCreated triggers)
o Azure SQL or similar relational databases
o Application Insights for monitoring, logging, and alerting
o AzCopy for bulk data movement into Blob Storage
DevOps & Infrastructure
• Experience with Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tools
• Experience using Azure CLI or PowerShell
• Experience with Docker / containers
Security & Identity
• Experience with:
o Managed identities
o Role-based access control (RBAC)
o Secure, cloud-native authentication approaches
Programming & Data
• Strong Python skills (automation, scripting, integrations)
• Solid understanding of SQL and database performance tuning
AI Tooling Experience (Required)
• Experience working with AI-assisted development tools
• Must demonstrate real-world usage in delivering working solutions
 

What You’ll Do
• Configure and wire Azure services within pre-provisioned environments to support application workloads
• Implement data ingestion pipelines using Azure services
• Configure and manage:
o Blob Storage
o Event-driven architecture
o Cloud-based databases
• Set up secure access using managed identities and role-based access control
• Support application deployment and CI/CD workflows
• Write lightweight Python scripts for automation and integration
• Run AzCopy operations for large-scale data backfills from source systems into Blob Storage
• Configure Application Insights for monitoring, logging, and alerts
• Create clear documentation and operational runbooks
• Collaborate with application engineers to ensure seamless platform integration

• Comfortable in a supporting but critical role (you enable the system, not own the app)
• Focused on practical, lightweight solutions — not over-engineering
• Strong documentation habits (this role leaves behind a usable system)
• Ability to ramp up quickly and deliver in short, focused timeframes
• Strong async communicator
• The initial project commitment is six weeks. If the project is successful, there is a strong likelihood of additional work. The client has outlined approximately two years of potential work, but at this time, only the initial six-week engagement is formally committed.
