About the Role

As the Technical Architect, you serve as the agencies senior technical expert, focusing primarily on architecting complex solutions and delivering advanced backend development across client projects. Reporting to the Head of Delivery, you bring deep technical clarity, strong systems thinking, and an ability to turn abstract requirements into scalable architectures. You guide backend engineers through technical decisions and patterns, ensuring clean implementation and consistent engineering standards. You are the technical backbone for high-complexity builds, helping the team deliver reliable, well-designed solutions.

Responsibilities

Technical Architecture & Solution Design

• Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications.
• Architect scalable backend solutions, integrations, and system components.
• Lead solutioning for complex client features and integration-heavy work.
• Review and validate key architectural and technical decisions across projects.

Engineering Guidance & Delivery Support

• Guide backend engineers on technical direction, patterns, and best practices.
• Provide hands-on support for advanced troubleshooting and complex builds.
• Document architecture and technical decisions for smooth team implementation.
• Support PMs during discovery, scoping, and feasibility assessments.
• Collaborate with teams to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery.

Innovation & Technical Advancement

• Contribute to internal tooling, prototypes, and app development when capacity allows.
• Research emerging technologies, tools, and patterns relevant to Shopify and backend systems.
• Recommend improvements to system architecture and development workflows.
• Help elevate engineering standards and backend maturity across the team
• Provide technical ownership and architectural guidance for Radikal’s internal tools and proprietary applications.
• Ensure internal apps are designed, maintained, and evolved using scalable, secure, and well-documented architectures.
• Leverage AI tools to support development, debugging, documentation, and code quality while maintaining clean, maintainable frontend implementations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in frontend, backend, or full-stack engineering within an e-commerce or agency environment, with deep hands-on Shopify experience.
• Expert-level understanding of Shopify architecture, including Liquid, theme architecture, Shopify APIs (REST & GraphQL), checkout extensibility, and app integrations.
• Strong proficiency in modern frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, with experience in React, headless Shopify setups, or custom storefront architectures as a strong plus.
• Proven experience architecting and delivering complex Shopify migrations (e.g., from Shopware, Magento, or custom platforms), including data models, integrations, and performance considerations.
• Deep understanding of system integrations involving ERP, PIM, WMS, marketplaces, and third-party services, including data flows, failure handling, and long-term maintainability.
• Strong grasp of performance optimization, scalability, security, and reliability in high-traffic e-commerce environments.
• Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical architectures and communicate complex technical decisions to engineers, PMs, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience setting technical standards, reviewing architectural decisions, and guiding engineers across multiple concurrent projects.
• Comfortable operating in a senior advisory role while remaining hands-on when needed to unblock complex technical challenges.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools responsibly to support system design, analysis, documentation, debugging, and code review without compromising architectural integrity or code quality.
