About Traffic Label

Traffic Label is an affiliate marketing group in iGaming, 18+ years in the market, 300+ clients. Role Overview

We are building a Customer Data Platform (CDP) that ingests data from 10+ casino partners, builds a unified player profile, and activates marketing campaigns through multiple ESPs (DotDigital, Adestra, FastTrack).

The platform is live: 5 sources in production, 30-40 dbt models in the silver layer, working email campaigns through DotDigital.

You’ll join a Data Platform team of 5-10 engineers (Senior DE, QA, DA, PM) reporting to the Data Engineering Lead. You will own the ingestion layer, source integrations, and platform tooling. Your job: make it so that connecting a new data source takes days, not months. You’ll design and build reusable pipeline templates and own integrations with external systems (both inbound and outbound).

This is not a “write one pipeline and move on” role. This is “build the system that generates pipelines” + own the integrations that feed and consume data.

Why this role

Connecting a new data source currently takes 2-3 months. Your job: make it 5 days. This is a data platform engineering challenge, not a pipeline writing task.

This is the group’s flagship project. The CDP improves how the company works with players across all brands and directly generates revenue through better marketing activation.

The platform is 4 months old, modern stack, zero legacy. But already in production with real traffic, real campaigns, real money. You’re scaling a working system, not prototyping in isolation.

The core challenge is designing a system where adding a new data partner is a configuration. You’ll solve problems across the full spectrum: API design, schema evolution, orchestration patterns, data quality, and delivery to downstream consumers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build ingestion pipelines for REST API, database sources, etc., using Python

The Role:

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will design, build, and deploy RAG systems and other AI solutions that help teams manage land, infrastructure, and stakeholder relationships more effectively. You'll work with large volumes of documents, permits, geospatial records, and stakeholder communications, turning unstructured and semi-structured data into reliable, queryable intelligence.

You'll own projects end-to-end: scoping the problem with internal and client-facing stakeholders, selecting retrieval and generation strategies, building and evaluating pipelines, and iterating on production systems alongside senior data engineers. You'll also contribute to the team's broader ML work: classification, extraction, geospatial modeling, and mentor junior team members as the practice grows.

This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role. You'll need to be as comfortable explaining tradeoffs to a non-technical project manager as you are tuning a reranker or debugging retrieval recall. Client-facing communication is part of the job.

Requirements

A successful candidate has 5+ years of experience in applied data science and machine learning, with deep hands-on expertise in retrieval-augmented generation and a strong statistical foundation. They demonstrate the following:

RAG & Generative AI (Core Focus)

• Proven experience designing, building, and deploying RAG-based systems in production, including chunking strategies, embedding model selection, retrieval tuning, and reranking
• Strong understanding of hallucination mitigation techniques (grounding, citation enforcement, context window management, guardrails) and the ability to articulate tradeoffs across architectures
• Experience evaluating RAG pipeline quality end-to-end: retrieval recall, answer faithfulness, latency, and cost
• Familiarity with vector databases and hybrid search (e.g., Databricks, Pinecone, pgvector, or OpenSearch)

Applied ML & Engineering

• Production ML experience: building, deploying, and maintaining models that serve real users at scale
• Strong Python skills including scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, and at least one deep learning framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow)
• Solid statistical foundation: hypothesis testing, distributions, probability, experimental design

Communication & Working Style

• Experience translating model behavior, recommendations, and limitations for non-technical stakeholders, particularly in domains where trust and accuracy are critical
• Comfort working independently across multiple projects simultaneously
• English proficiency at B2 or above (written and spoken)

Nice to Have

• Experience applying LLMs or transformer-based NLP for structured text classification, information extraction, or embedding-based retrieval
• Geospatial feature engineering, location-based statistics, spatial indexing, or proximity scoring, particularly in land, infrastructure, or utility corridor contexts
• Experience with Vision-Language Models (VLMs) or satellite/aerial imagery analysis for document or land parcel interpretation
• Experience with cloud ML platforms (AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI)
• Exposure to utilities, energy, infrastructure, land management, or enterprise SaaS domains
• Experience fine-tuning or adapting pre-trained models (LoRA, PEFT, or full fine-tune)
• Experience with agentic architectures and deployments

Responsibilities

What You’ll Own

This is a full-stack product engineering role. You’ll work across the system with .NET and Python on the backend, APIs and integrations, AWS infrastructure, and AI-enabled workflows embedded into real product features.

Your first major responsibility is taking full ownership of a live, production product- from database and backend services through APIs and application layers- currently developed with an external vendor. This includes deeply understanding what’s been built, identifying what needs to evolve, and establishing the engineering practices and standards that will carry the platform forward.

This is an active system with real users, real data, and real consequences. We’re looking for someone who can navigate this transition with technical rigor, sound judgment, and a strong sense of ownership.

On the product side, you’ll design and ship features end to end. That means writing the code, making architectural calls, defining what “done” looks like, and owning production quality.

On the AI side, you’ll build workflows that integrate LLMs and AI services into the product in ways that are reliable, observable, and grounded in measurable hiring outcomes.

Beyond the core platform, you’ll make judgment calls about when a customer need belongs inside the platform and when a standalone tool or application is the right answer- and then you’ll build it.

Engagement Model

This role starts as an independent contractor engagement, scoped at approximately 50–70% capacity.

The intent is to increase scope and ownership over time, with a planned ramp toward full-time (100%) involvement within 6–12 months, based on mutual fit, impact, and company needs.
