Description

System Application Architect, you will define, scale, and secure connected-health ecosystem for Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM). Operating as a senior individual contributor, this role bridges the end-to-end software spectrum โ€“ from on-device telemetry and embedded interfaces to streaming cloud infrastructure, big data pipelines, AI/ML enablement, and clinician/patient application platforms.

Beyond core system design, you will serve as the cornerstone of technical thought leadership and governance across the organization. You will establish modern engineering guardrails, lead cross-functional architecture forums, and guide engineering teams through complex implementation cycles. Partnering closely with R&D, Product, Quality, Regulatory, and Security stakeholders, you will drive technology strategy to ensure our software ecosystem is secure, resilient, compliant, and directly aligned with long-term business growth.

Requirements

General expectation

  • Knowledge of applicable Cybersecurity and Privacy standards and regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.)
  • Knowledge of applicable medical software standards and regulations (FDA guidelines)
  • DHF process understanding
  • Cloud/AWS, Infrastructure/Terraform/Kubernetes experience
  • System Architecture experience
  • Communication with cross regional team in US and CEE
  • Actively contributing to architectural decisions around Platform, Embedded, Mobile apps, Cloud, APIs, backend services, and data flows, with a strong focus on performance, security, and reliability
  • Working closely with engineers to review designs, unblock implementation, and ensure architectural decisions are executed correctly
  • Working with short-term MVP and with longer-term architectural improvements
  • Contributing to effort estimation, roadmap prep, and the commercial proposal for MVP delivery

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 4+ years serving in a Principal Architect, Lead Architect, or Systems Architect capacity for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven track record architecting high-reliability, cloud-native platforms within the MedTech, Digital Health, Biotech, or IoT device sectors. Direct experience handling continuous sensor data or streaming telemetry is highly preferred.
  • Cloud & Distributed Systems: Expert-level mastery of cloud environments (AWS or Azure), microservices, event-driven architectures, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) / DevOps/SRE practices.
  • Data Pipelines & Telemetry: Deep hands-on experience with real-time streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis), time-series databases, relational databases, and enterprise data warehousing.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Hands-on understanding of healthcare data security, privacy standards (HIPAA, GDPR), and medical software design processes (DHF, FDA guidance, IEC 62304).
  • Leadership & Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate complex architectural concepts, trade-offs, and risks to both executive stakeholders and engineering teams without direct line authority.
  • Interoperability: Deep experience with healthcare data exchange standards (HL7, FHIR) and electronic health record (EHR/EMR) integrations.
  • Data Stack & AI/ML: Familiarity with modern data stack tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) and MLOps platforms for model deployment and clinical decision support.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Thought Leadership & Strategy
Act as the subject matter expert and visionary for data architecture, cloud-native infrastructure, and IoT streaming analytics.
Author technical white papers and design blueprints to drive consensus on long-term engineering strategies.
Stay at the absolute forefront of emerging cloud technologies, evaluate third-party tools, and lead Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives to constantly improve platform performance and reduce cost.
Evangelize best practices in system scalability, data modeling, time-series data storage, and microservices architecture across the organization.

2. Engineering Team Guidance & Mentorship
Provide hands-on guidance, technical direction, and architectural oversight to cross-functional engineering teams during implementation.
Deconstruct complex architectural visions into actionable technical roadmaps and design patterns that development teams can seamlessly execute.
Conduct rigorous architecture and code reviews to ensure alignment with defined data models, engineering standards, and security postures.
Mentor senior and staff engineers, cultivating a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and robust engineering discipline.

3. Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Architecture
Design and implement high-availability, fault-tolerant, and horizontally scalable cloud architectures capable of handling millions of concurrent streaming device connections.
Define blueprints for microservices infrastructure, serverless computing, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
Implement robust business continuity, disaster recovery, and data replication strategies across multiple geographical regions.

4. IoT Telemetry & Big Data Engineering
Architect end-to-end data pipelines for ultra-low latency ingestion of continuous, multi-lead time-series ECG data from portable hardware devices.
Leverage modern streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Spark Streaming) to decouple data producers from down-stream storage and analytics engines.
Establish a multi-tiered data storage strategy (Hot/Warm/Cold), defining when to use time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB), NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB), and scalable Object Storage/Data Lakes (AWS S3) for long-term historical analysis.

5. Healthcare Interoperability & Analytics Enablement
Harmonize diverse clinical and device datasets into structured healthcare standards, specifically HL7/FHIR (or similar), and customized JSON payloads.
Build foundational data warehouse/data lakehouse infrastructure (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) that enables data scientists to train next-generation AI algorithms for automated arrhythmia detection.
Architect secure APIs (GraphQL/REST) to seamlessly expose telemetry metrics and diagnostic insights to electronic health records (EHR/EMR) systems and web/mobile cardiologist dashboards.

6. Security, Compliance & Data Privacy
Architect the platform to maintain strict compliance with global medical data privacy standards, including HIPAA, GDPR, and HITRUST.
Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs (QARA) teams to ensure documentation satisfies FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11, IEC 62304, and ISO 13485 software lifecycle standards.
Implement state-of-the-art security postures including end-to-end encryption (at rest and in transit), robust Identity & Access Management (IAM), and tokenization of Protected Health Information (PHI).

7. Product & Growth orientation
