Director of People

to $8000

Cider Consulting is a U.S.-based software consultancy. For more than 15 years we have built custom software for clients across the U.S. However, AI has changed how software is built and what clients expect, that’s why we are moving to one person per client project. We call them Solo Solutions Drivers. This SSD owns the client from the first discovery conversation to a working, adopted solution built with AI. This changes what we need from our people, and how we find and keep them. That is why we are hiring a Director of People.

The Role

You get real ownership and high autonomy and a chance to build the people's side of a new model from the start. How Cider finds, assesses and keeps Solo Solutions Drivers is still open, and you will shape it. Some HR practices already exist, and you decide what to keep, what to build, and what to adjust. There is no heavy corporate structure. You will be the main People leader at Cider, working directly with the executive team and the Technical Director. Our immediate focus is:

  • Recruitment: The SSD is a new kind of role, and few people on the market match it. For the first months, actively find the SSDs yourself, and design how we attract, assess and hire them across the US, Europe, Ukraine, etc. The HRD role is hands-on: you run searches, screenings and interviews yourself.
  • Assessment: build practical ways to assess people, and help our managers use them.
  • Retention and development: shape how we engage, develop, and keep people.
  • Leadership: you sit at the table for the most important people's decisions and help decide where the company should focus.
  • Our later focus will be: as our focus changes, you take on broader HR work such as onboarding and offboarding, learning and development, compensation, team engagement and vendor relations and other strategic-related activities to decide what the company’s areas of focus should look like in order to best utilize strengths to serve the market.

Who we are looking for

This is probably you if:

  • You have recruited technical people yourself, and closed roles that are not typical on the market. You can tell us about one such search and what you did.
  • You know how software is built. You have worked in the software world, you can say what you were personally involved in.
  • You can explain what you built or improved. You can describe your own part and the value it created for your company.
  • You are a people person who gets results. You care more about finding and keeping the right people than about designing policies and structures.
  • You can fluently communicate in English (C1-C2 English).

Hiring Process

  • Intro call (30 minutes) with the HR Coordinator. We tell you more about the role and the team, and you tell us what you are looking for. We also check that the role and your expectations match.
  • Interview with the Technical Director and the HR Coordinator (1 hour). We talk about your experience in more detail, and you can ask us more detailed questions about the company and the role.
  • Interview with the executive leader you would report to (1 hour). You talk about how you would work together and how you approach people and retention.

Working Model

  • Location: Fully remote
  • Timezone: Part of the team you will work with is based in New York, while the other part is based in Europe.
  • Meaningful working-hour overlap with both is required.
  • Engagement: B2B contract. Full-time.
  • Benefits: after 6 months working with us you will get 15 PTO days per calendar year.
