Data Migration Engineer (EHR Systems)
SCIMUS is a software development outsourcing company with 10+ years of experience, helping businesses scale their engineering capacity across industries such as Healthcare, eCommerce, AdTech, and more. We're proud of our delivery track record: 95% of projects delivered on time, a 92% Net Promoter Score, and 9 out of 10 clients returning for repeat work.
We are currently seeking a Data Migration Engineer to join a healthcare data migration project. You will extract, transform, and migrate patient and practice data from a wide range of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems - such as ModMed, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Allscripts, and Greenway - into a unified platform. Many of these systems were never designed to be migrated from, so a large part of the role is finding a reliable path to the data, whatever the obstacle.
About You
- Resourceful and relentless problem-solver - when the easy path fails, you find another;
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially where sensitive data is concerned;
- Align with key ethical principles, consistently demonstrating responsibility, confidentiality, and integrity;
- Able to deliver under deadline pressure without cutting corners on quality.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills, with hands-on experience in Node.js / JavaScript (ES Modules);
- Confident, strong Linux user: command line, shell scripting (grep, sed, awk, find), ssh, permissions, and cron/scheduled tasks;
- Proven experience with web scraping, API integration, and/or RPA, and the ability to pick the right data-acquisition approach per system: public APIs, unofficial/internal APIs, browser automation, HTML parsing, file exports, or RPA;
- Solid experience with the core stack: MongoDB, axios, puppeteer, cheerio, and cookie/session handling (tough-cookie / http-cookie-agent);
- Comfort parsing and normalizing many data formats - JSON, CSV, XML, HL7, CCDA, PDF, XLSX, and Access databases (csv-parse, fast-xml-parser, xlsx, mdb-reader, pdf-parse, officeparser, simple-hl7);
- Schema definition and data validation with zod;
- Familiarity with git, eslint + prettier, vitest, and Docker/docker compose;
- Careful, secure handling of sensitive patient data - least privilege, and data protected in transit and at rest;
- A track record of delivering on tight migration deadlines without compromising data accuracy.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with EHR / healthcare data systems;
- Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data privacy regulations;
- Experience reverse-engineering undocumented APIs;
- Experience with additional headless-browser frameworks (e.g., Playwright).
As a Data Migration Engineer, You Will
- Design and build data extraction pipelines from EHR systems, using whatever approach the source system demands;
- Map and transform heterogeneous source data into standardized schemas;
- Own the end-to-end migration for assigned practices, from raw export to validated import;
- Write tests and validation checks to guarantee data completeness and accuracy;
- Take ownership of your migration timeline, anticipate blockers early, and deliver on schedule;
- Handle all patient data with care, confidentiality, and integrity, following the principle of least privilege;
- Collaborate with the team to continuously improve extraction, mapping, and tooling.
What We Offer
- You can fully realize your potential in a supportive environment where your experience is valued.
- We believe in continuous learning and development - you'll have access to a library, weekly tech talks, and course compensation (including English classes);
- If you love sharing knowledge, we'll fully support you!
- 20 days of Paid Time Off;
- A friendly, open atmosphere free from unnecessary bureaucracy, with a team that has a great sense of humor, where creativity and initiative are encouraged.
- Regular team events, including Friday pizza parties ๐
