Head of Scientific Publications and Multi-Author Publication Engine
About the Role
Deep Knowledge Group is seeking a Head of Scientific Publications to build and operate a repeatable system for producing high-quality scientific and strategic publications across DKG's research agenda.
This is not simply a scientific-writing or copy-editing position.
The successful candidate will manage the full publication lifecycle: selecting and structuring topics, coordinating evidence and literature, identifying and engaging external co-authors, managing multi-author inputs, maintaining scientific and reference discipline, preparing manuscripts for submission, coordinating peer review and ensuring that each publication moves from initial concept to completed external output.
DKG works across areas including Longevity, Life Sciences, Space Medicine, human performance, AI and data-driven science. The role therefore requires strong scientific literacy, but not necessarily narrow specialization in one field.
Core Mandate
Build a functioning Scientific Publication Engine that can repeatedly transform DKG research, datasets and scientific initiatives into credible peer-reviewed publications and related high-quality outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a prioritized pipeline and calendar of scientific papers and publication opportunities.
- Convert approved research themes into clear article theses, outlines, evidence requirements, figure plans and publication roadmaps.
- Identify suitable journals and publication routes based on scope, scientific relevance, audience and credibility.
- Build and manage target lists of external scientists and subject-matter experts for multi-author papers.
- Prepare concise co-author briefing materials and personalized outreach.
- Coordinate contributions from internal and external authors without allowing the manuscript to fragment into inconsistent sections.
- Manage literature review, references, figures, tables, scientific claims and supporting source materials.
- Coordinate manuscript drafting, revision, author approval and final consistency checks.
- Manage author affiliations, contribution statements, conflicts of interest, ethics documentation and other submission requirements.
- Prepare journal submissions, cover letters and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate responses to reviewers and revision rounds.
- Maintain rigorous authorship and publication-integrity standards.
- Identify selected publication topics that can also support longer strategic or stakeholder-facing reports while clearly separating scientific content from commercial messaging.
- Build reusable templates, trackers, checklists and workflows so publication management becomes a repeatable institutional capability.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for somebody who combines the discipline of a scientific editor with the execution ability of a strong project manager.
The candidate does not need to be the world's leading technical specialist in every subject. They do need to understand sophisticated scientific material sufficiently well to identify weak claims, ask intelligent questions, coordinate experts and know when specialist review is required.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in scientific publishing, academic editorial work, research programme coordination, scientific communications or comparable work.
- Direct experience with academic manuscripts and journal submission processes.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple authors or contributors.
- Strong understanding of scientific referencing and evidence standards.
- Ability to read biomedical, Life Sciences or other technical literature critically.
- Excellent English writing and editing.
- Strong project-management skills and ability to maintain multiple publication streams simultaneously.
- Strong source-management and version-control discipline.
- Ability to communicate professionally with senior scientists and external experts.
- Practical use of AI for literature organization, source mapping, editorial workflow or drafting support, combined with rigorous human verification.
Strong Advantages
- Experience with Longevity, Space Medicine, radiation biology, human performance, preventive medicine, AI in science or related areas.
- Experience recruiting external co-authors.
- Experience managing revisions after peer review.
- Experience with grants, institutional research language or policy-facing scientific materials.
- Existing scientific or academic network.
First 90-Day Outcomes
The person should establish a live publication pipeline, functioning author/co-author tracking, repeatable submission and quality-control workflows, and materially advance priority manuscripts toward submission.
Success is measured by completed scientific outputs and functioning publication infrastructure, not by the volume of internal documentation produced.
