Finance and Payroll Operations Specialist (Prague)

to $3200
Product

We are a small international technology group with entities in the Czech Republic and the EU, a distributed team and two offices. We are looking for one reliable, hands-on person to own our day-to-day finance and payroll operations end to end.

This is not a role in a large finance department. You will be the single point of contact for accounting, payments and compensation admin, working directly with the founder and with external accounting firms in two jurisdictions. Autonomy, accuracy and discretion matter more than formal seniority.

What you will do

  • Compensation administration โ€” maintain the compensation register for employees and contractors across several countries: monthly amounts, changes, bonuses, leave and absence records, contract renewals.
  • Czech bookkeeping โ€” run day-to-day accounting for the Czech entity: collecting and coding invoices and receipts, VAT and statutory filing deadlines, liaison with the tax advisor, month- and year-end preparation.
  • Coordination with foreign accountants โ€” act as the interface to our external accounting provider in another EU country: send documentation on schedule, answer their queries, check what they deliver, keep both sets of books consistent.
  • Payment preparation โ€” enter payment batches (payroll and contractor payments) in online banking for two entities, prepare them for the director's approval, track execution and reconcile.
  • Recurring payments โ€” office rent and utilities, vendor and service invoices, car leases, subscriptions: check, schedule, pay, file.
  • Documentation and order โ€” keep contracts, invoices and payment records organised and audit-ready; propose and implement simple improvements to the process.

What we are looking for

  • 3+ years in accounting, payroll or finance administration, ideally in a small company or an accounting firm serving small clients.
  • Working knowledge of Czech accounting and payroll rules (VAT, payroll levies, filing deadlines). You do not need to be a certified tax advisor โ€” we have one โ€” but you must know what has to happen and when.
  • Comfortable with cross-border work: several entities, several currencies, contractors in different countries.
  • Confident with online banking, spreadsheets and cloud accounting tools; able to learn new systems quickly.
  • Czech, Ukrainian and English at a level that lets you speak with a Czech accountant, a Ukrainian contractor and an English-speaking manager on the same day.
  • Precise, self-organised, and trustworthy with sensitive payroll and banking data.

Nice to have

  • Experience with international contractor (B2B) arrangements.
  • Familiarity with Estonian, Polish or other EU jurisdictions.
  • Experience in tech, IT services or another fast-moving small business.

What we offer

  • One role with a full picture of the group's finances, not a narrow slice of a process.
  • Direct work with the founder and a short decision path.
  • Flexible hours and a hybrid arrangement after onboarding.
  • A modern office in Prague, and a small, calm, non-bureaucratic team.
  • Employment contract or long-term B2B (IฤŒO) โ€” to be agreed.

Important: this role is based in Prague. You need to be in Prague or ready to relocate there.
