Backend Team Lead (Node.js)

About the Role

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role where you will combine strong backend engineering expertise with technical leadership and people development.

You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and customers, owning execution across multiple workstreams and helping shape technical decisions from initial design through production.

We’re looking for someone who is technically strong, hands-on, AI-driven, and passionate about developing people while building scalable and reliable systems.

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience
• 3–5 years of experience in a technical leadership or Team Lead role
• Deep hands-on expertise with Node.js — must-have
• Strong experience with AWS — must-have
• Experience with React — preferred
• Experience with Python — advantage
• Experience working with MongoDB
• Strong experience designing and building scalable backend systems
• Proven experience managing technical execution across multiple workstreams
• Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, reliability, and clean code principles
• Experience delivering end-to-end features and projects from design through production
• Experience working in a fast-paced product environment
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to make technical decisions independently
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience leading or collaborating with global or distributed teams
• Ability to communicate complex technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience participating in customer-facing technical discussions

What You’ll Be Doing

Leadership & Sprint Execution

• Own Team Execution: Lead the team across multiple workstreams, ensuring high-quality delivery and strong execution throughout every sprint.
• Drive Sprint Planning: Own the sprint planning process, including prioritization, capacity planning, and alignment on sprint goals and deliverables.
• Cross-Team Coordination: Act as the primary bridge between your team and other departments, proactively removing blockers and managing cross-team dependencies.
• Develop the Team: Improve team velocity and individual capabilities through ongoing coaching, mentoring, feedback, and identification of skill gaps.

Technical Excellence & Design

• Own Technical Design: Lead the technical design of features and solutions, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and built according to strong engineering standards.
• Stay Hands-On: Lead by example through active participation in high-scale, cloud-based development using technologies such as Node.js, AWS, and MongoDB.
• Drive Code Quality: Conduct thorough code reviews and promote best practices around architecture, maintainability, performance, and engineering quality.
• Partner with Product: Work closely with Product Managers to shape features from initial concept and technical design through development, release, and production.

Customer-Facing & Domain Ownership

• Engage with Customers: Participate in technical sessions with customers, helping address technical requirements, challenges, integrations, and product-related discussions.
• Own Your Domain: Serve as the technical focal point for your domain and manage communication with OX’s internal Customer Success teams.
• Shape Product Enhancements: Lead technical discussions and decision-making related to product improvements, new capabilities, and feature planning.

AI-First & Performance Mentality

• Drive an AI-First Culture: Integrate AI tools and workflows into the daily development lifecycle, including AI-assisted coding, automated testing, prompt-driven prototyping, and other productivity-enhancing practices.
• Improve Efficiency & Quality: Promote a strong “Get Things Done” culture where speed does not come at the expense of stability, scalability, or quality.
• Use Modern Engineering Tools: Ensure the team continuously adopts the best available technologies, tools, and development practices to improve productivity and overall engineering performance.
