About the Role
We're looking for an engineer to build the middleware layer connecting a marine radar system to an IP camera network for an early-warning detection system. This is an SDK-integration and systems-integration role — connecting sensor hardware, camera streams, and edge servers into a working detection pipeline, not low-level firmware work.
What You'll Do
Integrate radar data ingestion using a vendor-provided SDK
Build a middleware prototype that logs timestamped detection events and links them to camera footage for evidence review
Integrate a 360° PTZ IP camera via ONVIF/RTSP, including continuous recording and night (IR) performance
Implement timestamp synchronization between radar and camera data streams
Spec out and validate site network/server infrastructure: managed switch + PoE budget, NVR storage, VPN/remote access, time sync (NTP)
Evaluate feasibility of radar-triggered camera control (no build required - assessment only)
Document architecture decisions, integration gaps, and open risks clearly for a non-technical client audience
What We're Looking For
Experience integrating with a vendor hardware SDK (sensor, radar, or industrial/marine electronics preferred), including working from incomplete or evolving documentation
Hands-on experience with IP camera protocols (ONVIF, RTSP); PTZ vendor API experience (e.g. SUNAPI) is a plus
Solid systems programming ability (C/C++, C#, or Python) - versatility matters more than a specific language
Practical networking/edge-infrastructure knowledge: managed switches, PoE, NVR/storage sizing, VPN, time sync
Comfortable working across Windows and Linux environments
Strong written documentation skills - deliverables include architecture memos and technical readiness reports, not just code
Able to work under NDA within a client-owned codebase/repository
Nice to have: prior radar/sensor-fusion experience, ROS2 exposure, experience scoping feasibility vs. build work.
