Commercial Data Analyst โ€” ARR and Revenue Analytics (finance background required)

$$$$

Read this first. This is not a data engineering role. If your CV is a list of pipelines, warehouses and orchestration tools, this is not your role and we will not be able to move you forward, however strong the engineering is. We are looking for someone who came up through finance and learned to code, or who has spent years owning revenue numbers and can build the analysis themselves.

Who we are
We are a European private equity investor backing growth-stage B2B software companies. You would work with us as a contractor, embedded one at a time in the companies we own, building the commercial reporting their boards and CFOs rely on.

What the job actually is
Our portfolio companies grow fast and their revenue data does not keep up. Billing sits in one system, contracts in another, the general ledger in a third, and nobody can say with confidence what ARR was last quarter or where the growth came from. You go in and fix that.

  • Build ARR, revenue and snowball analyses (New, Upsell, Downsell, Churn) end to end โ€” and reconcile them back to the finance ledger, so the numbers survive a board meeting.
  • Pull data out of billing systems, general ledgers, CRMs and contracts. Work out who owns what, ask the right people, and get it.
  • Clean, validate and reconcile genuinely messy data into one trusted source of truth. Duplicate customers, broken historical linkages after a migration, contracts that do not match invoices โ€” this is the substance of the work, not a preliminary to it.
  • Partner directly with the CFO, CRO and their direct reports. Translate a commercial question into an analysis, and the answer back into language a finance team acts on.
  • Establish the definitions and ownership so the reporting keeps working after you leave, then hand over and move to the next company.

You will write SQL and Python roughly 60โ€“70% of a normal working day. This is a building role, not an oversight role.

What we need from you

  • A finance foundation. You have worked in FP&A, financial analysis, controlling, audit, revenue operations or accounting โ€” or you hold an accounting qualification. You know what a ledger is, what happens at month-end, and why a variance matters. This is our hardest requirement and the one we compromise on least.
  • SaaS revenue metrics. ARR, MRR, NRR, churn, billings-to-revenue reconciliation. If you have built a snowball before, say so in your first message.
  • You build it yourself. Strong SQL. Python for anything SQL cannot do. You are comfortable with large, messy datasets and you have opinions about how to validate them.
  • You can stand behind the numbers. When a CFO pushes back, you can explain your methodology and hold your position where the data supports you โ€” or change it where it does not.
  • English at C1. You will be in live conversations with senior stakeholders from day one. We screen this on a call, not from your CV.

Helpful, but not required

  • Experience with dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks.
  • Exposure to ERP, CRM or billing migrations (NetSuite, Salesforce, Chargebee, Zuora, Stripe). Consulting, advisory or Big 4 background.
  • Private equity or portfolio-company experience.

Applying
Please tell us in two or three sentences: where the finance part of your background comes from, and the last time you built a revenue analysis end to end and had to defend the result. CVs without a finance-side role in the work history are unlikely to progress.
