Senior Network Engineer
Part-Time / On-Demand / Project-Based
We are a US-based Managed Service Provider (MSP) looking for a senior-level Network Engineer to support ongoing network and infrastructure projects across multiple client environments.
We need an experienced project engineer who can independently assess environments, plan changes, configure infrastructure, execute migrations, troubleshoot complex issues, and maintain clear technical documentation.
The engineer must be available during US business hours and for scheduled after-hours or weekend maintenance windows when required.
Current Project Scope
One of the upcoming projects is a network infrastructure migration involving approximately 100 or more network devices.
The project includes:
- Arista core switch migration
- Configuration and migration of an MLAG switch pair
- Hub-and-spoke network topology
- Core and access switch migration
- BGP and dynamic routing configuration
- Migration of virtual routers to physical routers
- Review and validation of the existing network configuration
- Development of migration, testing, and rollback plans
- Coordination of production cutover activities
- Post-migration validation and troubleshooting
- Creation and updating of network documentation
- Migration of Linux virtual machines from an existing Proxmox environment to company-managed servers
The engineer will also support other network architecture, migration, implementation, and troubleshooting projects across client environments.
Responsibilities
- Review current network architecture, configurations, and dependencies
- Identify technical requirements, risks, and potential migration issues
- Develop detailed implementation, validation, testing, and rollback plans
- Configure core switches, access switches, routers, VLANs, trunks, and routing
- Implement and troubleshoot Arista MLAG configurations
- Configure and troubleshoot BGP and other dynamic routing protocols
- Perform network migrations during approved maintenance windows
- Validate connectivity, routing, redundancy, failover, and network performance
- Troubleshoot complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 issues
- Support network architecture and infrastructure improvement projects
- Coordinate with internal teams, client contacts, vendors, and other engineers
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, technical documentation, and project updates
- Record completed work according to company processes
Take ownership of assigned technical projects from assessment through completion
Required Experience
- Senior-level experience with enterprise routing and switching
- Strong hands-on experience with Arista switches and Arista EOS
- Strong experience with Cisco switching and routing
- Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting MLAG
- Strong understanding of BGP and dynamic routing
- Experience with core and access switch migrations
- Strong knowledge of VLANs, trunking, LACP, spanning tree, redundancy, and high availability
- Experience planning and executing production network cutovers
- Ability to create implementation, validation, testing, and rollback plans
- Strong Layer 2 and Layer 3 troubleshooting skills
- Experience working independently on complex infrastructure projects
- Clear written and spoken English
- Availability during US time zones
Availability for scheduled evening or weekend maintenance windows
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in a managed services environment
- Experience supporting multiple client environments
- Experience migrating virtual routers to physical routers
- Proxmox administration or migration experience
- Linux server and virtual machine migration experience
- Experience with hub-and-spoke network designs
- Experience producing network diagrams and technical documentation
Relevant certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure, Arista ACE, or equivalent practical experience

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior engineer who can take ownership of complex network projects and work independently with limited supervision.
You should be comfortable reviewing an unfamiliar environment, identifying missing information, asking the right technical questions, developing a practical plan, executing changes, and resolving issues during implementation or cutover.
You should also be comfortable working across different client environments, switching between projects, communicating clearly, documenting all changes, and providing reliable technical updates.
