Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical SEO Specialist with deep expertise in WordPress administration, technical SEO, Google Search optimization, and website infrastructure. This role is responsible for improving search engine visibility, optimizing website performance, maintaining the technical health of WordPress websites, and working closely with developers, system administrators, and marketing teams.

The ideal candidate understands both technical SEO and the WordPress backend, ensuring websites remain fast, secure, scalable, and fully optimized for Google Search and other search engines.

Responsibilities

Technical SEO

  • Perform comprehensive technical SEO audits and implement improvements.
  • Identify and resolve crawl, indexing, rendering, and duplicate content issues.
  • Optimize Core Web Vitals and overall website performance.
  • Improve page speed using caching, image optimization, lazy loading, and code optimization.
  • Optimize XML sitemaps, robots.txt, canonical tags, structured data, and schema markup.
  • Monitor and resolve Google Search Console issues.
  • Analyze crawl errors, redirect chains, broken links, and duplicate pages.
  • Implement SEO best practices for large websites with thousands of pages.
  • Monitor organic search performance and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Analyze server logs to understand search engine crawler behavior and improve crawl efficiency.
  • Stay current with Google’s Search Central documentation, algorithm updates, and technical SEO best practices.

Google Search & Crawling

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of how Google Search crawls, renders, indexes, and ranks websites.
  • Possess expert knowledge of Googlebot behavior, crawl budget optimization, and search engine crawling processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve crawl, indexing, rendering, and ranking issues affecting website visibility.
  • Optimize websites for Google’s Core Web Vitals and Page Experience metrics.
  • Manage robots.txt directives, XML sitemaps, canonical tags, structured data, hreflang implementation, redirects, and HTTP status codes.
  • Analyze server logs and Google Search Console data to identify crawl inefficiencies and indexing problems.
  • Understand JavaScript rendering, mobile-first indexing, duplicate content management, and website architecture from Google’s perspective.
  • Ensure website changes follow Google’s Search Essentials and SEO best practices.

WordPress Administration

  • Manage and maintain WordPress backend administration.
  • Install, configure, and maintain WordPress plugins and themes.
  • Troubleshoot plugin conflicts and website functionality issues.
  • Perform WordPress upgrades while minimizing downtime.
  • Optimize WordPress database performance.
  • Configure staging and production environments.
  • Maintain website backups and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Ensure website stability after updates and deployments.

Website Performance

  • Optimize server response time (TTFB).
  • Configure and manage caching technologies.
  • Optimize CSS, JavaScript, fonts, and images.
  • Improve Lighthouse performance scores.
  • Identify server-side bottlenecks affecting SEO and user experience.

Cloudflare & CDN

  • Configure and manage Cloudflare CDN.
  • Optimize caching rules and page rules.
  • Configure redirects and URL rewrites.
  • Manage firewall rules, bot protection, and caching strategies.
  • Troubleshoot caching and cache invalidation issues.
  • Monitor website traffic, bot activity, and security events.

 

 

Website Security

  • Maintain WordPress security best practices.
  • Identify vulnerabilities in plugins and themes.
  • Coordinate security updates and patches.
  • Monitor suspicious website activity.
  • Work with system administrators to improve website security posture.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Use Google Search Console and Google Analytics to monitor SEO performance.
  • Track keyword rankings and organic traffic.
  • Create technical SEO reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Monitor indexing trends, crawl health, and website performance.
  • Present findings and optimization strategies to management.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Technical SEO experience.
  • 5+ years of WordPress administration experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Google Search, Googlebot, crawl budget optimization, crawling, rendering, indexing, and ranking mechanisms.
  • Extensive knowledge of WordPress backend administration.
  • Strong understanding of website architecture and information hierarchy.
  • Experience optimizing high-traffic WordPress websites.
  • Experience with Cloudflare CDN, caching, and website performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SSL/TLS certificates, redirects, and web servers.
  • Experience troubleshooting WordPress performance issues.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP sufficient to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Experience analyzing web server logs to identify Googlebot activity, crawl issues, and indexing problems.
  • Experience using Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, SEMrush, PageSpeed Insights, and Lighthouse.
  • Experience implementing structured data (Schema.org) and SEO best practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written documentation and communication skills.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux web servers (Ubuntu, Debian, or Amazon Linux).
  • Experience with Nginx or Apache.
  • Experience with AWS EC2, Load Balancers, RDS, and CloudFront.
  • Familiarity with MySQL database optimization.
  • Experience with Git and deployment workflows.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience supporting enterprise or education websites with over 100,000 monthly visitors.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards.

Salary: $2500 - $3700 DOE

Report to: IT Manager, Marketing Director

Work hours: Pacific Standard Time + on-call
