Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Engagement

About the Role
We’re seeking a software engineer who lead a team of 3 developers and own the technical side of a single Laravel-based web application. You may expect multiple challenges in this project, starting from the existing code base and architecture audit, through the refactoring and enhancements and finishing with aligning team members from different backgrounds.

The project is related to medical lab testing and includes one custom PHP/Laravel web-application and a number of integrations with the external systems (mostly API-based, both inbound and outbound directions).

While the core responsibility is the technical and solution architecture, the role also includes taking part in urgent bug fixing, building AI development and deployment workflows and coaching. Together with a Ukrainian team of one Project Manager, two developers and one QA, you will also work with two authors of the application and work directly with the US product owners, their management team and support representatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership over the solution and technical architecture of the application
  • Collaborate with the PM and dev team to work on development tasks during low-volume periods.
  • Help the team to triage, investigate, and resolve support tickets and application issues as they arise.
  • Work with logs, databases, and code to diagnose root causes.
  • Participate in stand-ups or team syncs, as needed.
  • Maintain high responsiveness during working hours, with a strong sense of ownership.

Technical Requirements
Required :

  • 7+ years of experience in software development (reaching the senior-level, TL or architect level)
  • Proficiency in PHP/Laravel and frontend-frameworks like Vue or react
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Comfortable working independently during 11 AM – 7 PM CET/Europe hours
  • Readiness for occasional availability after hours (paid separately)
  • Comfortable working with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and basic DevOps tools
  • Ability to read logs and debug issues in production environments.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with AI-tools
  • Experience with HIPAA-compliant requirements
  • Experience with Wordpress
  • Experience with other programming languages

Soft Skills

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical team members and customers.
  • Eager to learn and take on new challenges.

  • 20 minutes intro with Volia PM
  • 40 minutes technical interview with Volia Senior Developer
  • 30 minutes interview with the customer representatives
