Google Maps Expert / Head of SEO
About The Role:
- Working hours: 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM Central European time
We are looking for a Head of Local SEO for a fast-growing US-based SEO agency that works with Fortune 500 companies, ecommerce businesses, SaaS companies, and a large portfolio of local SEO clients.
This is a hands-on strategic leadership role. You will own Google Maps and local SEO strategy across a portfolio of 150+ client accounts and work closely with the COO, Content Manager, On Page Manager, and Off Page Manager.
You will be responsible for identifying ranking gaps, analyzing competitors, creating custom local SEO strategies, designing controlled SEO tests, evaluating results, and helping our departments implement successful approaches at scale. You will also be directly responsible for helping the agency improve Google Maps visibility and geogrid performance across its local SEO portfolio.
We are looking for someone who lives and breathes local SEO and can provide recent, verifiable evidence of improving Google Maps rankings through geo grid tracking platforms such as Local Falcon, Local Optics, Local Dominator, or similar tools.
The ideal candidate has 5-10 years of SEO experience, recent agency experience, and a deep understanding of how local SEO strategies should change depending on the industry, market, competition, website, authority, and existing performance.
We need someone with strong initiative, excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, clear communication skills, and a genuine passion for achieving measurable local SEO results.
Key Responsibilities
- Own local SEO strategy across the agency client portfolio
- Take strategic responsibility for improving Google Maps visibility and geo grid rankings across local SEO campaigns
- Audit Google Business Profiles and create clear optimization strategies for multiple clients, especially priority and Tier 1 accounts
- Analyze geo grid rankings, organic rankings, websites, competitors, citations, links, content, and local market conditions
- Identify the reasons accounts are underperforming and create customized three-month action plans
- Develop custom local SEO strategies based on each client's industry, market, competition, authority, and current performance
- Design, document, and oversee controlled local SEO tests across the Off Page department and other relevant departments
- Track and analyze geo grid rankings using Local Falcon, Local Optics, Local Dominator, or similar tools
- Evaluate testing results and determine which tactics should be scaled, adjusted, tested further, or discontinued
- Improve Off-Page SOPs based on testing data and proven ranking results
- Coordinate closely with the COO and department managers to align execution with current local SEO best practices
- Monitor Google algorithm updates, Google Business Profile changes, spam updates, and ranking volatility
- Stay current with local SEO trends, tools, testing methods, and Google Maps developments
Report findings, test results, ranking changes, and recommendations clearly to the COO
Role Boundaries:
- This is not primarily an execution role.
- You will not be responsible for manually completing any Google Business Profile optimization, citation submission, content upload, or link building task.
- Our existing departments are responsible for implementation.
- Your responsibility is to analyze, strategize, test, guide, review, and ensure that the work being completed aligns with the strategy and can produce measurable results.
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of SEO experience with a strong focus on local SEO and Google Maps
- Recent experience working remotely for an SEO agency in a fast-paced environment
- Experience managing strategy across a large portfolio of local SEO campaigns
- Verifiable before-and-after geo grid case studies from Local Falcon, Local Optics, Local Dominator, or similar tools
- The ability to explain what was changed, why it was changed, and how those actions contributed to ranking improvements
- Deep expertise in Google Business Profile optimization processes
- Strong understanding of local citations, NAP consistency, local links, local relevance, authority, proximity, and competitive analysis
- Experience with local link-building strategies
- Experience diagnosing underperforming local SEO accounts and developing custom recovery plans
- Experience designing, documenting, and evaluating SEO tests
- Experience working with US-based clients or campaigns targeting the US market
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to identify the actual causes of ranking issues rather than relying on generic checklists
- The ability to work independently and take full ownership without constant supervision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- The ability to adapt quickly to algorithm changes, new tools, and testing results
- Excellent attention to detail and a results-focused mindset
- The ability to use AI efficiently while maintaining independent judgment and strategic thinking
