Backend Engineer (Node.js and Shopify)

We are looking for a Backend Engineer for our client, an established Israeli technology company specializing in custom Shopify development and e-commerce solutions.

The company partners with fast-growing brands to build scalable Shopify stores, custom applications, backend services, and complex integrations. Their engineering team works on production systems that power real businesses, focusing on performance, scalability, reliability, and clean architecture.

As a Backend Engineer, you’ll work directly with the client’s engineering team on long-term projects, building Shopify applications, backend services, APIs, and cloud-based solutions. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, takes ownership of their work, and wants to grow into a senior backend role.

Responsibilities

* Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js

* Build and maintain production REST APIs

* Develop custom Shopify applications and integrations

* Integrate third-party APIs and external services

* Work with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar production databases

* Develop webhook-based integrations and event-driven functionality

* Troubleshoot production issues and implement long-term solutions

* Optimize backend performance, scalability, and reliability

* Collaborate directly with the client’s engineering team through Slack and code reviews

* Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

* Participate in technical discussions and architecture decisions

Requirements

Must Have

* 2–4 years of commercial backend development experience

* Strong experience with Node.js

* Experience building and maintaining production REST APIs

* Solid understanding of asynchronous programming (Promises, async/await)

* Experience working with production databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or similar)

* Experience integrating third-party APIs

* Familiarity with AWS or GCP

* Understanding of clean architecture and separation of concerns

* Experience working with Git and CI/CD workflows

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

* Strong communication skills and confidence collaborating directly with the client’s engineering team in English

Nice to Have

* Shopify app development

* Shopify Admin API or Storefront API

* GraphQL

* Experience with webhooks and event-driven architectures

* Background jobs, queues, or message brokers

* Docker

* Experience working on e-commerce platforms
