Business Analyst (French-speaking)

About the Project

We are launching an international digital transformation project focused on the modernization and migration of a national geospatial data platform. The platform serves as a central repository for geospatial information, open data, maps, and climate resilience-related datasets used by government institutions, international organizations, and the public.

The project includes the upgrade of existing GIS-based platforms, migration of data and metadata, infrastructure modernization, implementation of Open Data capabilities, user training, and knowledge transfer activities. The project is funded by an international development organization and delivered in cooperation with public sector stakeholders.

We are seeking a French-speaking Business Analyst to support stakeholder communication, requirements gathering, workshop facilitation, business process analysis, and project documentation. This is a part-time freelance engagement, and the Business Analyst will work closely with the Project Manager, Solution Architect, GIS specialists, development team, QA engineers, and customer representatives throughout the project lifecycle.

This role requires frequent interaction with French-speaking stakeholders and active participation in both business and technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and document business, functional, and non-functional requirements;
• Communicate directly with stakeholders, technical specialists, and project representatives in French and English;
• Analyze existing systems, business processes, user workflows, and data management practices;
• Support migration activities related to GIS platforms and associated services;
• Translate stakeholder requirements into functional specifications, user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria;
• Facilitate workshops, interviews, requirements-gathering sessions, and project meetings;
• Prepare project documentation, requirements specifications, use cases, meeting minutes, and user guides;
• Collaborate closely with Solution Architects, GIS specialists, developers, QA engineers, and project management teams;
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities and participate in validation of project deliverables;
• Assist in training preparation and knowledge transfer activities.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Systems Analyst;
• Strong experience in requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation;
• Experience working with software modernization, migration, or digital transformation projects;
• French — Upper-Intermediate to Advanced level (written and spoken);
• English — Upper-Intermediate level (written and spoken);
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
• Experience facilitating remote workshops and meetings with international stakeholders;
• Experience preparing BRDs, SRSs, user stories, use cases, process diagrams, and workflows;
• Experience with wireframing, BPMN, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams;
• Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with GIS, geospatial systems, Open Data platforms, or related technologies;
• Experience working on donor-funded or international development projects;
• Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies;
• Experience working with government organizations or public sector initiatives.
