Job Title: Tech Lead — Shipping & E‑commerce Integrations (Node.js / React)

Company / Project context (short)

The company operates in international logistics, specializing in e‑commerce last‑mile delivery, automated customs workflows and digital shipping management. The new platform will replace legacy systems and provide direct integrations with marketplaces and carriers to enable operational flexibility, reduce licensing overhead and eliminate manual Excel‑based processes.

Role:

We are building a multi‑tenant Shipment Management Platform for international logistics and e‑commerce last‑mile delivery. The platform will provide automatic tracking updates, instant label generation, automated customs/document workflows and rule‑based carrier selection via direct integrations with multiple e‑commerce marketplaces and carrier partners.
We're looking for a senior Tech Lead (10+ years commercial experience) who will own the technical direction, architecture and delivery of the new platform and who has proven experience launching platforms that integrate with sales channels/venues.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead architecture and delivery of the new multi‑tenant shipping platform (backend + frontend / full‑stack).
  • Design and implement integrations with e‑commerce platforms (Etsy, Shopify, eBay, Amazon, WooCommerce) and carrier partners (including DHL, FedEx; additional carriers to be integrated).
  • Own API design, data models and event flows for tracking, label generation, manifests and customs documents.
  • Define and enforce platform standards: microservices, security, observability, CI/CD, testing and deployment practices.
  • Collaborate with product management & sales/operations to translate business requirements into technical milestones and a practical roadmap.
  • Evaluate and introduce AI tools and automation where they add measurable value (e.g., data enrichment, document parsing, anomaly detection).
  • Manage technical risk and vendor/licensing tradeoffs to minimize third‑party liabilities and licensing overhead.

Required qualifications:

  • 10+ years of commercial software engineering experience, with at least several years in a technical leadership role.
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript background: Node.js for backend and React for frontend (comfortable with FS or FE+BE split).
  • Proven e‑commerce integration experience: hands‑on work integrating with at least several of Etsy, Shopify, eBay, Amazon, WooCommerce.
  • Experience integrating carrier APIs (DHL, FedEx and other carriers) and building label/manifest workflows.
  • Experience launching platforms (not just stores) on e‑commerce sites — ability to register, configure and operate a platform/venue integration on marketplaces.
  • Solid architecture skills: microservices, REST/GraphQL APIs, event‑driven design, multi‑tenant considerations.
  • Cloud and DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, IaC (Terraform/Terragrunt or equivalents).
  • Data and automation: experience with automated document generation, ETL, and handling high‑volume tracking data.
  • Security and compliance awareness: data protection, customs/regulatory constraints, secure credential handling.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management — able to work with product, sales, operations and external partners.
  • English — fluent (written & spoken).

Preferred / Nice‑to‑have

  • Experience in logistics, shipping, customs clearance or last‑mile delivery platforms.
  • Prior work on multi‑tenant SaaS products with billing/tenant isolation patterns.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools for document parsing, classification or automation (practical usage, not just theory).
  • Experience with high‑throughput integrations and scaling carrier/e‑commerce webhooks.
  • Knowledge of payment flows, refunds and reconciliation in marketplace contexts.
  • Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK) and production incident management.

What success looks like (first 6 months)

  • Architecture and roadmap for the new platform approved and validated with product and operations.
  • Working prototypes for at least two e‑commerce integrations and one carrier integration (end‑to‑end label generation + tracking).
  • CI/CD pipelines, staging environments and deployment process established; basic multi‑tenant isolation in place.
  • Clear process and checklist for approving platform integrations with sales channels/venues documented and tested.
  • Measurable reduction in manual customs/EOY workflows via automated document generation prototypes.

Interview focus

  • Architecture and tradeoffs for multi‑tenant shipping platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience with Etsy/Shopify/Amazon/WooCommerce/eBay APIs and carrier APIs (DHL, FedEx).
  • Examples of opening a platform on marketplaces (not store onboarding).
  • Leadership examples: mentoring, code reviews, technical hiring and cross‑functional delivery.
  • Practical use of AI tools to automate operational tasks.
  • Live problem solving: design a label generation + tracking pipeline and failure/retry strategies.
