DevOps Engineer (GCP/Kubernetes) for Large-Scale European E-commerce Product

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join a product team building and scaling a large European e-commerce platform in the sustainable retail domain.

This role focuses on cloud infrastructure, platform reliability, automation, and operational excellence. You will help shape the future of the platform’s infrastructure, enabling engineering teams to deliver features quickly, securely, and reliably while supporting a growing customer base and business-critical services.

The position offers a high level of ownership, direct influence on infrastructure decisions, and the opportunity to work on a mature product that continues to evolve and expand.

Project Overview

The project is focused on the cloud infrastructure and platform engineering ecosystem behind a large-scale e-commerce product serving thousands of daily users and merchants.

The engineering team continuously improves platform scalability, reliability, security, deployment speed, and operational efficiency. The infrastructure supports multiple services and development teams, enabling rapid product delivery while maintaining high availability and performance standards.

Responsibilities

— Maintain and evolve cloud infrastructure and platform architecture
— Ensure platform scalability, reliability, availability, and performance
— Implement and maintain security best practices to protect systems and customer data
— Design, optimize, and automate CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
— Improve and automate build, release, and testing processes
— Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
— Support and enhance Kubernetes-based production environments
— Collaborate closely with software engineers, Product Owners, and cross-functional teams
— Improve monitoring, observability, incident response, and operational excellence practices
— Research, evaluate, and introduce new technologies and infrastructure improvements

Requirements

— Commercial experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or a similar role
— Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
— Proven production experience with Kubernetes
— Solid understanding of system architecture, monitoring, observability, and reliability engineering principles
— Experience designing, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines and automation processes
— Strong expertise with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
— Experience troubleshooting distributed systems and production environments
— Ability to work independently, take ownership of infrastructure initiatives, and drive technical improvements
— Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

— Experience supporting applications built with Ruby on Rails and/or React
— Experience with Helm, Terragrunt, and GitHub Actions
— Experience with Datadog, Linkerd, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, or Memorystore
— Familiarity with networking, traffic management, and service mesh technologies
— Software development background
— Degree in Computer Science or a related field
— German language skills
