About the Team and Role

You'll join the Orchestration team and take ownership of the Payment Router — one of the core components of our platform. It lets merchants and operations specialists flexibly configure routing and processing rules, so they integrate with us once instead of connecting to a dozen different providers, and get the best conversion thanks to our business logic.

This is a high-load, technologically complex product with strict requirements for correctness, reliability, high availability, and low latency. We're currently exploring AI-driven options to simplify configuration for our merchants — so there's plenty of interesting work ahead.

This is a leadership role, and we want to be upfront about the path to it. Because of the depth of the domain and our experience onboarding leads, the first 6–9 months are focused on working as a Senior Engineer — getting deep into the product, the architecture, and the team — before stepping into the Tech Lead role in full. You'll be mentored and onboarded directly by the team's manager throughout this transition.

What you'll own

Your focus will be on:

• leading the team technically and as a people manager — mentoring engineers, setting up processes, prioritizing work, and giving constructive feedback
• designing key services of our distributed system
• building new functionality and supporting and improving existing services
• making architectural decisions and setting technical direction
• balancing priorities between completing our routing migration (V1 → V2), shipping new features, and steadily reducing tech debt

This is a hands-on leadership role: expect to spend roughly 50–60% of your time coding. We don't have "pure managers" here — leads stay close to the product through code.

We rely on automated testing over manual QA, with a modern CI/CD pipeline, test coverage, and Blue-Green Deployment. We deploy several times a day and ship merchant-facing features within each quarter.

You're a great fit if you have

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong experience with distributed systems
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience with message brokers (Kafka / RabbitMQ)
• Strong backend skills in a statically typed language (Java/Kotlin/TypeScript/etc.)
• Understanding of high-load system design
• People-management experience (~1.5–2 years ideal; we'll also consider a strong Senior ready to grow into the lead role, with a longer ramp-up period)
• A proactive, ownership-driven mindset and the ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms

At this stage we value leadership qualities slightly above pure engineering depth: the team already has strong engineers, and what they need is someone who can lead them, set priorities, and keep the high-level picture in focus.

Nice to have

• Go, AWS SQS, Buf, Protobuf, Node.js
• Experience designing and building high-load systems 
• Fintech / payments experience
• Experience with no-code / low-code automation
