Embedded Tech Lead

Petcube is looking for an Embedded Tech Lead to own the technical direction of our hardware and firmware platform across multiple product lines (cameras and GPS trackers). You’ll be the person who makes the key architectural and system-level decisions, ensures production readiness, and builds a sustainable engineering culture within a small, high-impact team. This is a leadership role first — you’ll guide and support engineers rather than write the majority of the code yourself.

What You’ll Do

• Define and evolve the platform architecture across Petcube’s embedded products
• Make key technical decisions around hardware, firmware, and system design
• Own production readiness: guide products from prototype through mass production and ongoing maintenance
• Mentor and support firmware engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and design feedback
• Communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and timelines clearly to product and management
• Balance short-term delivery pressure with long-term platform quality and technical debt management

• Drive cross-team alignment on technical decisions that affect firmware, hardware, backend, and mobile

   

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years in embedded engineering with progressive technical leadership
• Experience launching hardware products from prototype to mass production (must-have)
• Experience working across multiple hardware generations
• Strong system-thinking mindset — ability to see how firmware, hardware, cloud, and mobile interact
• Familiarity with both Embedded Linux and MCU/RTOS environments (doesn’t need to be expert in both, but needs to understand both worlds)
• Track record of mentoring engineers and improving team practices
• Startup or early-stage product company experience (strong plus)

• Willingness to roll up sleeves when needed, but primary value is in direction, not daily code output

   

Tech Stack Across the Platform

C/C++, Embedded Linux, Zephyr RTOS / FreeRTOS, BLE (Nordic), GPS, cellular (LTE-M/NB-IoT), Wi-Fi, IMU, Yocto, CMake, low-power design, video streaming and networking.

Location: Remote — EU (Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Greece, Hungary), US, or Canada
