Job DescriptionRole Overview

The position is for an IT Infrastructure Engineer / Systems Administrator specializing in Azure Virtual Machine migration. The primary responsibility is to execute a direct lift-and-shift migration of a legacy B2B software platform from Rackspace virtual machines to Azure Virtual Machines. This role focuses on infrastructure, systems administration, and hardware migration rather than software development or cloud-native architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Provision and configure two Azure Virtual Machines within a Virtual Network (VNet), specifically one Web Server VM and one Database Server VM
• Migrate the web server environment running Windows Server 2012 R2 and a Classic ASP application, including all dependencies and custom software
• Migrate SQL Server 2014 databases, comprising multiple client-specific databases, ensuring full data integrity throughout the process
• Design and implement a data backup and redundancy strategy tailored to Azure VMs, explicitly excluding PaaS or SQL-as-a-Service solutions
• Set up networking components such as VNet, Network Security Groups (NSG), and connectivity between the two Azure VMs
• Validate the full functionality of the application post-migration, with particular attention to session handling due to Classic ASP session variable dependencies
• Document the entire environment and migration process comprehensively and provide a detailed handover to the internal client team
• Provide ongoing periodic maintenance and support following the migration completion

• Immediate availability to start, with a strict timeline of 2 to 3 weeks to complete the migration.
• Strong communication skills in English (minimum 7/10 proficiency) to interact effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to overlap with North American Central Standard Time (CST) business hours for meetings and urgent migration support.

Role Clarifications

• No involvement with containerization, Kubernetes, Azure PaaS services, or application code migration/refactoring.
