About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Animator / Technical Animator to create and integrate high-quality character and creature animations in Unity.

This role requires both strong animation fundamentals and technical understanding of Unity’s animation systems. You’ll work on gameplay-critical animations, ensuring they are responsive, readable, and production-ready.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality animations for characters (humanoid & non-humanoid)
  • Integrate and configure animations in Unity
  • Build and maintain Animator Controllers and state machines
  • Ensure animation readability and responsiveness in gameplay
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams
  • Deliver clean, structured, and scalable animation systems

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial experience in game development
  • Strong experience with Unity Animator
    • Animator Controller, Blend Trees, Layers
    • Animation Events, State Machines, State Machine Behaviours
  • Strong animation skills in Autodesk Maya (Blender is a plus)
  • Understanding of:
    • Root Motion vs In-place animation
    • Gameplay vs cinematic animation
    • Authored vs procedural / IK animation
  • Experience with:
    • Rigging, retargeting, transitions, additive animation
    • Animation parameters (trigger, bool, int, float)
  • Experience with version control systems
  • Ability to read technical specs and propose solutions

Nice to Have

  • Technical Animator background
  • Experience with rigging and skinning
  • Procedural animation experience
  • Familiarity with:
    • Final IK, Animation Rigging, Cinemachine, Timeline
  • Experience with combat/combo systems
  • Experience in genres like: action, ARPG, metroidvania, platformers
  • Integration of VFX/SFX via animation events
  • Understanding of platform constraints (mobile/console/PC)
  • Mocap cleanup experience
  • Facial animation experience
  • UX animation and gameplay readability awareness

Expected Deliverables

  • Production-ready animation clips
  • Properly imported and configured assets in Unity
  • Structured Animator Controllers
  • Clear parameter/state machine setup
  • Timeline sequences (if required)
  • Animations that feel responsive and polished in gameplay
