Head of Engineering

Come Back Agency supports US software and technology companies by running their hiring process. We work with delivery and leadership teams to define roles, screen candidates, and manage interviews. Successful candidates are hired directly by the company and become part of its team.

This position is with a software development company that builds and maintains custom digital products for international clients. The company works with web and mobile technologies and focuses on delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions.

Team members work in distributed teams and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and project teams.
 

About the Role:

We're looking for an experienced engineering leader - or a strong full-stack engineer ready to step into leadership - to take ownership of technical direction, team quality, and architectural standards across multiple product teams.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be close to the code and architecture decisions while also mentoring engineers, participating in hiring, and communicating with international clients.

What You'll Do:

- Define and guide technical direction across projects, ensuring scalable and maintainable architecture

- Review and support architecture decisions made by development teams

- Mentor engineers and help teams improve their technical skills and processes

- Participate in technical hiring: interviews, candidate evaluation, team building

- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to align technical decisions with business goals

- Communicate with US-based clients - explain architecture decisions, join calls when needed

- Identify and address bottlenecks in development processes

What We're Looking For:

- 5+ years in software development, including experience in a technical leadership or senior individual contributor role

- Strong hands-on background in full-stack web or mobile development

- Experience with system architecture and technical decision-making

- Natural leadership qualities - ability to mentor engineers and improve team efficiency

- Comfortable participating in hiring and evaluating technical candidates

- Strong communication skills - able to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

- Fluent English (written and spoken)

-Familiarity with AI tools or AI integrations in production software

Technology Stack
Engineering teams in the company work with the following technologies: React; React Native; Node.js; Python; Flutter.
The CTO will oversee teams working with these technologies and ensure architectural consistency and technical quality across projects.

Nice to Have:

- Previous experience in a formal leadership role (Tech Lead, Head of Engineering, or similar)

- Experience in service-based or outsource IT companies

- Track record of scaling or mentoring engineering teams

- Experience establishing or improving engineering processes
