UX/UI Designer
UX/UI Designer (AI Startup)
Location: Remote, PST Time Zone
Type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are looking for a UX/UI Designer to craft intuitive experiences for our AI-driven merchandising platform. You will translate complex generative-AI capabilities into clear, user-friendly workflows that help brands design, test, and launch products faster.
In this role, you will own the design process end-to-end—from discovery and user flows to high-fidelity UI and developer handoff—working closely with Product, Engineering, and ML teams. Your focus will be on simplifying complexity, building scalable design systems, and continuously improving the experience through data, experimentation, and user feedback.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience & Background)
- 4+ years designing UX/UI for digital products (SaaS, AI-driven platforms, or data-heavy applications).
- Proven experience delivering end-to-end design: discovery → wireframes → high-fidelity UI → handoff → post-launch iteration.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating systems thinking, usability, and measurable product impact.
- Mastery of Figma (components, auto-layout, design systems, prototyping).
- Experience collaborating with product managers, engineers, and ML/data teams.
- Understanding of user-centered design, accessibility, and responsive design principles.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum workflows and working inside Jira / Linear / Trello.
- Ability to interpret product specs, APIs, and technical constraints.
- Experience designing for AI workflows (human-in-the-loop, confidence states, explainability) is a strong plus.
- Strong written and verbal communicator (design rationale, async documentation, stakeholder reviews).
Core Responsibility Areas
1) Product & User Experience Strategy
- Translate product vision and research insights into intuitive user experiences.
- Define user journeys, personas, and problem statements.
- Balance business goals, technical constraints, and user needs.
- Advocate for usability, clarity, and accessibility across the product lifecycle.
2) UX Design & Interaction Modeling
- Create flows, wireframes, and prototypes that simplify complex AI-driven functionality.
- Design for edge cases, empty states, model uncertainty, and error recovery.
- Validate ideas quickly through low-fidelity concepts and usability testing.
- Ensure logical information architecture and scalable interaction patterns.
3) UI Design & Design System Ownership
- Deliver polished, production-ready UI aligned with brand and accessibility standards.
- Build and maintain a scalable design system (components, tokens, patterns).
- Ensure visual consistency across product surfaces.
- Collaborate with engineering to ensure accurate implementation.
4) AI/ML Experience Design
- Design interfaces that communicate AI behavior clearly (confidence, traceability, explainability).
- Create human-AI collaboration workflows (review, override, annotation, feedback loops).
- Support dataset labeling and annotation UX where applicable.
- Optimize for trust, transparency, and reduced cognitive load.
5) Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product & Engineering to shape requirements early.
- Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Present design decisions backed by research and data.
- Align with QA and GTM teams to ensure cohesive releases.
6) Research & Validation
- Plan and conduct usability testing, interviews, and rapid validation cycles.
- Translate qualitative and quantitative insights into actionable improvements.
- Partner with analytics teams to monitor behavior, adoption, and friction points.
- Continuously iterate based on real-world usage.
7) Prototyping & Experimentation
- Build interactive prototypes for testing and stakeholder alignment.
- Support A/B testing and experimentation with clear hypotheses.
- Measure UX success through usability metrics and behavioral analytics.
8) Documentation & Design Communication
- Maintain clear design documentation and rationale in Notion / Confluence.
- Produce specs, interaction guidelines, and annotated handoffs.
- Ensure a single source of truth for UX patterns and decisions.
- Contribute to onboarding and internal education on design standards.
9) Quality & Implementation Support
- Partner with developers during implementation to preserve UX integrity.
- Review builds, validate edge cases, and ensure pixel accuracy.
- Help define UX acceptance criteria within SDLC workflows.
- Continuously refine based on QA and production feedback.
10) Accessibility, Ethics & Responsible Design
- Embed accessibility (WCAG principles) into all design decisions.
- Design responsibly for AI use cases (bias awareness, transparency, user control).
- Ensure privacy-aware UX patterns and clear consent flows.
