Founding engineer (AI-native administration platform)

We believe that no one should have to spend the months following a loss buried in paperwork and legal jargon. Today, end-of-life logistics are a fragmented mess of "manual grunt work" that compounds the pain of grieving.

We are building the first AI-native platform designed to bring order to this transition. By synthesizing software and automation, we provide families with a single source of truth to navigate the legal, financial, and logistical aftermath of a death. We are tackling the last underserved category in the life-event space, building the essential platform that families will rely on to handle the "in-between work" with dignity and speed.

The Role

As a Founding Engineer, you will build the platform from zero to one. You will be the first technical hire, owning the core architecture that powers the post-loss experience.

This is a high-ownership role where you will translate messy, real-world workflows into elegant software. You will work directly with the founder to define how AI is embedded into the product from the start. There are no legacy systems and no handoffs—just real responsibility from day one.

This role is backend-leaning and workflow-heavy. It is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building systems that handle long-running, asynchronous, and complex real-world processes.

What You Will Build

• Orchestration Systems: Design core backend systems that manage complex, long-running legal and financial workflows.
• Real-World Data Models: Build APIs and schemas grounded in the constraints of institutional, financial, and legal systems.
• AI-Powered Tooling: Develop internal tools that use LLMs to manage long-running cases, summarize state, and automate document-heavy workflows.
• Product Surfaces: Create interfaces that provide families with clear visibility into their progress, blockers, and next steps over time.

Who You Are

• Senior Technical Background: You are a backend-leaning or full-stack engineer with a solid AI engineering background who has owned and shipped real production systems.
• Architectural Judgment: You have the experience to make foundational decisions that balance speed with long-term scalability.
• Mission-Driven: You are motivated by building software that meaningfully assists people during their most difficult life moments.
• Ownership Mentality: You don't wait for a ticket; you identify the most important problem and solve it.
• Note: No prior experience with estate or legal systems is required. You will be deeply onboarded into the domain by a team with hands-on experience.
