Next Gen Lab is looking for a Lead Editor/Visual Director to join the team behind Pulse Docsβ€”an exciting new animation channel on American YouTube.

About the Project: Pulse Docs creates exciting mini-documentaries and docu-dramas focused on crime, guns, prison escapes, and geopolitical facts. Our goal is to build one of the premier animated channels of 2026.

Key Goals:

  • 3-4 Videos Produced Per Month
  • 1 Million Views Per Month
  • 200,000 Subscribers

Here is an example of our work: https://f.io/r3vLJSDA

What You'll Do:

You will own the visual pipeline. You aren't just cutting clips; you are the visual director deciding how the script comes to life. You will work directly with our 3D animators to assemble the final cut.

  • Visual Storyboarding & Direction: Before animation begins, you will work directly with me and our writers to break down the script and design the scenes using static images/style frames. You will dictate the camera angles and visual flow for the animators.
  • Asset Allocation: You will help make the creative decision on what the viewer sees. You decide when to use a 3D animated scene, when to utilize kinetic motion graphics (maps, documents), and when to use grit-style archival footage.
  • End-to-End Editing: Assemble the final 20-30 minute cuts. This includes pacing, transitions, and ensuring the narrative flows logically.
  • 2D Motion Graphics Integration: You need to be self-sufficient in After Effects for supporting visuals. You will handle "Newspaper Highlight" effects, map animations, and dynamic text overlays without needing to ask the 3D team for help.
  • Technical Workflow & Asset Management: You will handle massive project files for 20-30 minute documentaries. You must maintain impeccable bin structures and utilize proxy workflows to ensure the project never crashes and assets are never lost.
  • Cinematic Polish: Apply color grading, film grain, and guide our animators in lighting effects, and "camera shake" to give the 3D models a grounded, cinematic documentary feel.
  • Sound Design & Scoring: you will work with our sound designer to finalize the video to create emotion.
  • Quality Control & Project Management: Oversee the animators' output, handle revisions, and ensure the final export meets our high quality standards.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Expert Proficiency: Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Visual Storytelling Experience: A showreel demonstrating documentary-style editing, strong pacing, and creative B-roll usage.
  • Director’s Eye: Ability to visualize a script and communicate that vision to animators via rough static storyboards or shot lists.
  • Bonus Skill: Blender Knowledge. (Ability to open project files, tweak camera movements, or adjust lighting is a massive plus but not a requirement).
  • Attention to Detail: You are the last line of defense for visual errors or continuity issues.
  • Familiarity with the Genre: Understanding the editing styles of channels like Fern, Lemmino, Thinker or Cipher.
  • Big bonus if you have worked on any of those channels or similar ones.
