Tech Lead (Ruby on Rails) to $7500

We’re currently looking for a Tech Lead to join our client - an award winning IoT company disrupting the smart locker market with innovation.

This is a full-time, fully remote opportunity for an experienced, hands-on leader to guide technology teams through a rapid scaling phase, ensuring product stability and high-quality innovation for notable clients like Microsoft and PWC.

Key Responsibilities:
 

• Hands-on Technical Leadership: Actively contribute to architectural decisions, infrastructure scaling, and code reviews, focusing on Ruby on Rails and AWS environments. Collaborate with engineers to solve technical challenges directly.
• Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a geographically dispersed team of software and hardware engineers. Foster a collaborative, open engineering culture that encourages feedback and innovation.
• End-to-End Product Ownership: Oversee the design, development, and delivery of software and hardware products. Ensure thorough decision-making, due diligence, and accountability in all aspects of product development.
• Architecture and Infrastructure Oversight: Drive architecture improvements and infrastructure scalability to handle increased platform demand. Ensure system reliability and security as the business scales.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with internal teams, including product, sales, and operations. Translate technical decisions into clear business impacts and vice versa. Facilitate cross-departmental communication to ensure alignment.
• Continuous Improvement: Implement and refine engineering processes to improve efficiency, quality, and delivery speed. Encourage innovation while maintaining a focus on stability and performance.
• Customer and User Focus: Prioritise customer needs and feedback to shape product improvements. Work with stakeholders to refine requirements and ensure products exceed user expectations.
• Compliance and Security: Ensure all software and hardware products comply with relevant data security, privacy, and environmental regulations.

Requirements:

• Proven experience leading hands-on development and managing software and hardware engineering teams in IoT or similar fields.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems and experience addressing the challenges they present.
  • Effective code review skills, ensuring high-quality standards across development.
  • Awareness of the limitations and potential downsides of generative AI in software development.
• Strong background in Ruby on Rails, React, TS, AWS
• Demonstrated experience in system architecture and infrastructure scaling.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, including the ability to evaluate trade-offs and apply the right design for different scenarios.
• Ability to perform technical deep dives, contribute directly to development efforts, and lead by example.
• Excellent decision-making skills with a focus on due diligence and evaluating long-term technical impacts.
• Experience managing geographically dispersed teams and remote collaboration.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with internal stakeholders across departments.
  • Proficiency in drawing UML diagrams or using modelling languages to communicate between stakeholders and the development team.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and fast-paced environments.
