Senior Cocos Animator

We’re looking for a Senior Cocos Animator to craft high-impact motion for real-money and social gaming experiences. You’ll design, rig, and assemble animations directly in Cocos Creator, collaborating closely with engineers to deliver smooth and performant gameplay moments — especially for card-based games. You’ll own the full animation pipeline from concept to in-engine integration, ensuring both creativity and technical efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities

🎨 Animation & Motion Design

  • Create polished, responsive animations for gameplay states (idle, deal, reveal, win/lose, bonus, celebratory moments).
  • Animate UI motion that enhances feedback and user experience (pop-ins, counters, jackpots, prompts).
  • Build and tune particle effects and VFX for wins, combos, streaks, and events.

⚙️ In-Engine Assembly (Cocos Creator)

  • Rig, sequence, and assemble animations directly in Cocos Creator; configure timelines, curves, events, and state machines.
  • Package scenes and prefabs for developer handoff; set up triggers, animation events, and reusable components.
  • Collaborate with engineers to validate playback, performance, and behavior across devices and frame rates.

🚀 Performance & Optimization

  • Optimize animation assets (atlases, sprite sheets, textures, skeletal rigs) for mobile and web environments.
  • Define and maintain budgets for memory, draw calls, and file size.
  • Maintain a library of reusable rigs, VFX, and motion systems to accelerate production.

🤝 Collaboration & Workflow

  • Work with Product, Game Design, and UI/UX to ensure motion enhances gameplay mechanics and pacing.
  • Provide clear documentation for developer integration; review builds to ensure fidelity.
  • Present motion concepts, collect feedback, and iterate quickly.
  • Mentor peers on animation quality and best practices.

     

Requirements

  • 5+ years in game animation or motion design, including 3+ years of in-engine animation for shipped titles.
  • Strong portfolio in gaming or iGaming, ideally with card-game animation experience.
  • Proficiency in Cocos Creator (timelines, animation clips, prefabs, events, and state machines).
  • Deep understanding of asset optimization (compression, atlas strategy, skeletal vs. frame-based tradeoffs).
  • Solid grasp of animation principles (timing, anticipation, easing, overlap).
  • Awareness of mobile/web performance constraints and profiling workflows.
  • English proficiency (written & spoken).

     

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Spine rigging/animation.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript/JavaScript scripting in Cocos.
  • Knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop/Illustrator, particle systems, or shader-driven VFX.
  • Understanding of casino UX patterns and gameplay feedback loops.
  • Mandarin language skills.
