Your mission

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Head of Engineer who is also a hands-on technical leader. This is a critical "player-coach" role for an individual who is passionate about innovation, deeply understands scalable product development, and is excited by the potential of AI to be at the core of all our processes. 

You will be responsible for guiding and inspiring the technical direction of our products, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and actively mentoring a team of talented engineers to build groundbreaking solutions that directly support our mission.

What You’ll Do

• Design, evolve, and scale our SaaS platform to deliver real-time personalization and customization capabilities;
• Write and review code, prototype new features, and lead by example in development quality and speed;
• Collaborate with teams to embed AI/ML in workflows — from personalization and automation to testing and UI generation;
• Oversee CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker, Helm), observability (Prometheus, Grafana), and deployment reliability;
• Mentor engineers, foster collaboration, and build a strong technical culture focused on scalability and expertise;
• Implement secure API architectures, secrets management, and GDPR/SOC2-aligned processes;
• Partner with leadership to align technical decisions with product priorities and business outcomes.

What You'll Bring to the Team

• 7+ years in software engineering with 2–3 years leading or mentoring teams;
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience);
• Strong backend expertise in Python, Go, or Node.js. Comfortable across the full stack (React, TypeScript);
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems or event-driven architectures;
• Solid grasp of DevOps and automation: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, GitHub Actions;
• Curiosity and exposure to AI/ML tools;
• A startup mindset — resourceful, pragmatic, and excited to balance architecture vision with hands-on coding;
• Clear communication and a collaborative, ownership-driven work style.

Bonus Points

• Experience integrating with e-commerce platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, or Magento;
• Familiarity with personalization, rendering, or customization pipelines;
• Understanding of security/compliance frameworks (GDPR, SOC2).

Technical Stack & Tools

• Backend: Python (Django, FastAPI), Go, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes;
• Frontend: React, Liquid, modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks for admin and theme extensions;
• AI/ML & Automation: AI code agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), scikit-learn, basic ML workflows for personalization, testing, and documentation automation;
• Infrastructure: Bare-metal servers orchestrated with Rancher and Kubernetes, Helm charts for deployment automation, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Prometheus & Grafana for observability;
• Integration: REST/GraphQL APIs, Webhook systems, third-party e-commerce APIs (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento).
