Director of Engineering
Role overview:
We’re hiring a Director of Engineering to manage and scale our engineering function. This is a senior leadership role focused on managing team leads, driving operational excellence, and fostering a high-accountability, high-autonomy culture. The role is people-focused — not hands-on — and requires strong functional management and organizational leadership skills. This person will report to the CTO and act as the primary coach and performance owner for 5–8 engineering team leads.
Product Overview
Our company builds SaaS solutions primarily in the fintech, data analytics, and automation domains. Our engineering teams are organized around product-aligned units, and we’re currently implementing best practices from Inspired: How to Create Tech Products Customers Love. The Director of Engineering will not be responsible for product strategy but will partner closely with product leadership to ensure delivery and team maturity.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, mentor, and develop 5–8 engineering team leads
- Drive a culture of ownership, autonomy, and accountability across teams
- Conduct performance reviews, manage goal-setting, and handle performance escalations
- Coach team leads on people management, communication, and cross-functional alignment
- Support team structuring, resourcing, and hiring strategy
- Develop and track engineering KPIs and qualitative signals to assess team health and productivity
- Ensure cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and other business units
- Facilitate the adoption of Inspired-based product development practices
- Identify and manage cultural or performance issues within engineering teams
- Take a deliberate approach to understanding current processes before implementing changes
- Champion key transformations, such as AI adoption, through structured, well-communicated rollouts
Important Note: Candidates must demonstrate prior knowledge of CUCollaborate’s platform, tools, and services, and are expected to research and familiarize themselves with the organization before applying.
Requirements:
- 5+ of Engineering Management (10 years+ of work in IT totally)
- Proven experience managing managers in an engineering organization
- Strong background in performance management and leadership development
- Experience scaling engineering teams and introducing structure at growth-stage companies
- Familiarity with Agile, product delivery cadences, and engineering metrics
- Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Thoughtful and structured approach to change management
- As a plus: Exposure to or experience with Inspired-style product organizations
- As a plus: Experience facilitating AI adoption in an engineering org
