Back end engineer Offline

We have a working MVP built with Next.js and are seeking a backend-focused engineer to transform it into a production-ready application capable of supporting thousands of users. Our front-end interface is already designed and tested, so the core focus of this role is on backend architecture, data ingestion, and AI-driven functionality. You will be responsible for ensuring that the application is fast, stable, secure, and able to scale quickly as usage grows.

A key part of this work will involve implementing AI pipelines, including system prompting, embeddings, vector search, and retrieval-augmented generation, to ensure that the application delivers highly accurate and context-aware outputs. Equally important is your ability to think through and simplify the user experience, ensuring that even a complex system feels intuitive and easy to use.

This role is ideal for someone with strong experience in scalable backend development, ideally using Node.js or related frameworks, and a solid understanding of data privacy and user security. We are looking for a true thought partner who can engage strategically on product direction, not just write code. This is a short-term contract with the opportunity to transition into a longer-term part-time or full-time role if the collaboration goes well.
