Senior/Middle Backend Engineer (PHP8/Laravel) (offline)

For our client, the largest independent corporate venture builder in Europe, who over the last five years have developed a solid and comprehensive framework for corporate innovation, we are looking for a Senior/Middle Backend Engineer (PHP/Laravel) to join the dynamic team of top-notch experts and to help building new digital ventures from scratch and/or adding new features to one of existing platforms.


About the Company

A team of 90+ exceptional venturers collaborating from Munich, Zurich, Kyiv, London and now growing in Valencia and Abu Dhabi. The Company builds prototypes and MVPs to test and iterate business ideas quickly in the market. Later, the team scale and grow the most promising ones to let them become leading solutions on the market. They are full stack – from analytically sound investment theses over rapid MVPs to sophisticated deep-tech solutions. There are a lot of start-up projects ahead of them in several exciting verticals, such as FinTech, PropTech, Digital Health, Food and Beverage or MarTech. Among all corporate venture builders, they are the “strategic” one - have a comprehensive view on strategy and governance questions around corporate venture building.


Responsibilities

Build well-architected, customer-friendly, intuitive, and beautiful software
Design and development of server-side logic, definition and maintenance of the databases, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front­end
Integration ​​with various external APIs and efficient handling of data (e.g. asynchronous processes, caching, error handling, batch processing, secure transmissions)
Actively help to improve code quality, application speed and scalability architecture and automatization across all projects
Design packages and components to be reused across projects
Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders, such as our Frontend and Backend Engineers, DevOps Engineers and Product Managers to design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code across all of our projects
Help to further improve the Software Engineering practices and tooling, and automate reasonably many things to make them more efficient
Refine technical standards and propagate them into the software engineering teams


Requirements

Written and verbal fluency in English is a must
Collaborative, self-motivated, curious, and humble attitudes
4+ years of experience with building modern, sophisticated PHP backend solutions
Solid knowledge of PHP web frameworks (such as Laravel and Symfony)
Understanding the fully synchronous behavior of PHP
Basic knowledge of the common PHP or web server exploits and their solutions
Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and their declarative query languages
Familiarity with concepts of OOP, MVC, Mocking, ORM, continuous integration, microservices, and RESTful
Strong test-driven mindset to ensure high software quality. Able to implement testing (Codeception is a plus)
Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
Experience with integrating 3rd-party services such as Stripe or SES
Experience with Docker-based development workflows
Profound understanding of tools like GitHub and JIRA
Reliable, organized, communicative, customer-oriented

Ability to think from a customer-oriented perspective


Would be plus

Experience with Cloud Functions / Serverless architectures and popular cloud platforms like AWS
Possibility to work outside of the traditional boundaries of a backend engineering role and find ideal solutions for IT operations / DevOps, speed of delivery and security
Experience with an additional, mature programming language (e.g. Java, C++, C# or similar)
Contribution to open source projects
