Edgerun

As the Software Engineer, you will own the software around the exoskeleton in Kyiv: the phone app that soldiers and testers use to control the device, and the system that records what every unit does, so engineering can see which units exist, what version they run, and what happened in every test. The core firmware team that makes the exoskeleton walk is in overseas. You will be the software owner in Kyiv, close to the units and the soldiers.

You will report to the Ukraine Director and work every day with colleagues internationally, as the link between what we see in the field and what the main engineering team needs to fix.

This is a hands-on ownership role. You should thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, be comfortable making decisions independently, and bring the energy, attitude, and ownership to move fast and finish things. The responsibilities below are in priority order right now. They will change as we grow, and you will help decide how.

Responsibilities

• Take over our existing phone app on day one: make it work with the newest hardware, and keep it updated every time the device changes
• Make the app easy for a soldier to install and use, in Ukrainian and English
• Build and maintain one always-up-to-date list of every exoskeleton: serial number, hardware version, software version, settings, and repair history
• Get the data each unit records during a test off the device and into a database, so test results, errors, and usage are stored and searchable instead of living in chats and spreadsheets, built to work for 10 units and for 10,000
• Build simple web pages and dashboards for the field team, engineering, and customers
• Update, recover, and read logs from any unit in Kyiv without waiting for anyone
• Give the firmware team clear, specific feedback, and make small changes with them when needed
• Take ownership of problems and make fast, practical decisions without waiting for detailed direction

Basic Qualifications

• Proven track record of building and shipping a real product, mostly on your own, with links, app store pages, or repositories to show it.
• Strong on both the app side (mobile or web) and the data side (databases, data pipelines, and APIs). The programming languages or tools you use do not matter.
• Comfortable with low-level code (C or C++, embedded devices, serial and Bluetooth connections), enough to debug a device and talk to firmware engineers as an equal. You do not need to be a firmware expert.
• Clearly excellent at what you do, with lots of energy, a habit of taking ownership, and a record of moving fast and finishing things.
• Working English for daily collaboration with colleagues internationally, and Ukrainian for work in Kyiv.
• Comfortable around hardware and soldiers.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Kyiv, able to work full time in the office.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience with embedded or IoT devices, or hardware testing
• A mobile app published on the App Store or Google Play
• Experience building data pipelines for device or sensor data

How We Work

Hardware reaches real operators within days of concept, not months, and firmware updates ship over the air every one to two weeks. We are a small team with one owner per category. Nobody owns a slice of someone else’s problem.

Additional Requirements

Location: Kyiv, full time, in the office
Start: As soon as possible

As the Mechanical Prototyper, you will turn Edgerun's engineering designs into real, working parts in Ukraine. You will take CAD and instructions from our engineers abroad, get parts made with local suppliers and our in-house 3D printer, and fit them onto the world's most advanced powered exoskeleton in the hands of the units using it.

You will report to the Country Director and work directly with the international engineering team, so design changes move from drawing to hardware in days, not weeks.

This is a hands-on builder role, not a design role. You should thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, be comfortable making decisions independently, and bring the energy, attitude, and ownership to build a rapid prototyping operation from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Get parts made from engineering CAD: CNC aluminum, laser-cut and bent sheet metal, metal and nylon 3D printing, and carbon fiber
• Work with suppliers to make designs manufacturable: tolerances, threads, radii, and simpler geometry so a three-axis shop can turn a part in a day
• Run the field office 3D printer for same-day prints
• Hand-fit, bend, drill, and assemble parts, and repair one or two units when asked
• Fit new parts onto units in Kyiv and upgrade the fleet between hardware versions
• Build and keep a bench of fast local shops, and know who can move your job up the queue
• Keep tools, materials, spares, and the Kyiv workshop organized and ready
• Work closely with the Country Director and the engineering team to keep information flowing between the workshop and engineering
• Take ownership of problems and make fast, practical decisions without waiting for detailed direction

Basic Qualifications

• Proven ability to produce and fit mechanical parts, with concrete examples of parts you made, not only parts you drew.
• Strong CAD skills in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar, including editing someone else's model for manufacturability.
• Solid working knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing, enough to direct a supplier and catch their mistakes.
• Hands-on workshop experience: assembly, hand tools, drilling, bending, and fitting.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and applying tolerances, fits, and thread specifications.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, making decisions independently, and developing processes where none exist.
• Working English for daily collaboration with international engineers, and Ukrainian for communication with local suppliers and teams.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Kyiv, able to work full time on-site.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience at a Ukrainian drone or UGV company, or at a small CNC or fabrication shop
• Existing relationships with Kyiv suppliers and workshops
• Basic electronics familiarity: soldering and wiring

Hours: Occasional extended hours and weekends as needed

As the Senior Field Engineer, you will run Edgerun's field engineering work in Kyiv. The work is testing: you will get units on soldiers, run the test, record what happened, get it to engineering, fix what broke, and repeat. You will keep every unit of the world's most advanced powered exoskeleton in Ukraine working, decide what gets tested and when, and be engineering's first call on anything in the field.

You will report to the Ukraine Director but work on your own, and you will lead a field engineer, with more field engineers to be hired under you. You will work closely with the international engineering team, making sure the information from the field is clean, current, and organized for engineering.

This is a hands-on role. You should thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, be comfortable making decisions independently, and bring the energy, attitude, and ownership to build a field engineering operation from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run field tests, scheduling them with brigades and testers and running them alongside a field engineer
• Stay hands-on with testing, diagnostics, repairs, and troubleshooting of electromechanical hardware
• Keep every unit in Ukraine ready before each test and fixed fast when it breaks: charge, flash, diagnose, solder, swap parts, and source parts locally
• Diagnose problems down to the board and explain them clearly to the engineering team, keep the issues feed sharp, and push fixes back out to units in the field
• Maintain strong working relationships with brigades, testers, and military users and follow issues through to resolution
• Decide what gets tested and when, including when to go out in person and when to stay at base, and work with local contacts to run tests quickly
• Keep spares, tools, diagnostic equipment, and the Kyiv field workspace organized and ready
• Keep the unit list, test tracker, and issues feed always current, and get clean test data (video, photos, logs, and notes) into the Field drive the same day
• Lead the field engineer: set clear daily objectives, check the work, and help them get better, as more field engineers are hired under you
• Build simple processes for testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication
• Work closely with the international engineering team to keep information flowing between the field and engineering
• Take ownership of problems and make fast, practical decisions without waiting for detailed direction

Basic Qualifications

• Has run hardware in the field before as the person responsible, with proven ability to build, diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electronic systems and components, ideally gained through practical work with drones, UGVs, robots, radios, EW or similar hardware.
• Experience working with BLDC motors, motor controllers, actuators, lithium battery packs, sensors and wiring harnesses.
• Strong soldering and wiring skills and practical experience reading schematics, using multimeters, oscilloscopes and other diagnostic tools, debugging boards and flashing firmware to identify and resolve faults.
• Experience assembling and disassembling mechanical systems, interpreting CAD drawings and performing basic fabrication or mechanical modifications.
• Ability to identify root causes of hardware failures, implement practical fixes and clearly document findings for the engineering team.
• Demonstrated experience building, modifying, testing and repairing physical hardware, with concrete examples of technical accomplishments.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, making decisions independently and developing processes where none exist.
• Independent: takes an objective and comes back with the result, and does not need to be told twice.
• Organized and precise, and finishes the data before leaving the test.
• Has led one or two people before.
• Willing to grind: full days in the shop and in the field, and weekends when a brigade can only test on a weekend.
• Comfortable with soldiers and command.
• Working English for daily collaboration with international engineers and fluent Ukrainian for communication with local teams and military operators.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Kyiv, able to work on-site and travel to field testing locations when required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Military service or extensive direct work with military units (a strong plus)
• Firmware familiarity: reading logs, flashing controllers, basic scripting for data capture
