DevOps Tech Lead
Who we are
We’re a fast-growing telehealth product launched in 2025, focused on the US market. Our platform connects patients with doctors for weight-loss treatment, prescriptions, and insurance-covered telehealth visits.
We work in a HIPAA-conscious environment where reliability, security, and responsible handling of sensitive information are essential. Our user base is growing quickly, and our team is remote-first across multiple countries.
Role overview
We’re looking for a hands-on DevOps Tech Lead to lead our growing DevOps team and own the technical direction and day-to-day operation of our AWS infrastructure.
Reporting directly to the CTO, you’ll manage our existing DevOps engineer and help hire and develop the team as we grow. You’ll own infrastructure priorities, guide technical decisions, and work closely with development and QA to support reliable delivery.
You’ll combine hands-on infrastructure engineering with team leadership: improving production reliability, strengthening security, automating operations, and helping other engineers become more effective and independent.
This role suits someone who enjoys building and operating infrastructure, makes practical decisions, and can give a small team clear direction.
What you’ll do
Lead and develop the DevOps team
- Manage DevOps engineers through regular one-to-ones, clear goals, constructive feedback, and performance reviews.
- Own day-to-day planning and prioritization, balancing infrastructure improvements with operational needs.
- Help hire and onboard additional DevOps engineers.
- Coach engineers, review infrastructure changes, and encourage shared ownership.
- Build documentation and cross-training practices that reduce dependence on individual team members.
- Keep the CTO informed about significant risks, capacity constraints, and decisions requiring business input.
Own infrastructure direction and delivery
- Develop and maintain a practical infrastructure roadmap aligned with product growth and engineering priorities.
- Lead infrastructure architecture decisions, balancing reliability, security, maintainability, and cost.
- Remain directly involved in implementation, troubleshooting, and production operations.
- Plan infrastructure upgrades and migrations with appropriate testing, rollback procedures, and documentation.
- Establish clear practices for reviewing and delivering infrastructure changes.
Operate reliable AWS environments
- Operate and improve production and staging environments.
- Monitor availability, performance, capacity, and AWS spending.
- Maintain backup and recovery procedures, including regular restoration tests.
- Identify operational risks and address them before they become recurring incidents.
- Work with development and QA on deployment readiness, troubleshooting, and infrastructure needs.
Strengthen infrastructure security
- Own infrastructure security controls, including access management, patching, hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
- Maintain protection against malicious traffic, bots, and DDoS attacks using CloudFront, AWS WAF, and related services.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure controls that support the company’s security and compliance requirements.
- Work with the CTO and relevant stakeholders to address infrastructure risks and provide supporting documentation.
Improve observability and incident response
- Maintain useful monitoring, logging, dashboards, health checks, and actionable alerts.
- Lead infrastructure incident response and coordinate investigations with developers when application components are involved.
- Maintain clear escalation procedures and operational runbooks.
- Review incidents, identify contributing causes, and ensure follow-up improvements are completed.
- Help establish sustainable production support coverage as the team grows.
Automate operations and improve delivery
- Maintain and improve infrastructure as code using CloudFormation.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks using Bash or Python.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with development and QA.
- Make infrastructure changes reproducible, reviewable, and documented.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual work and make deployments safer and more predictable.
What we’re looking for
- Production infrastructure experience: Strong experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, including direct responsibility for production AWS environments.
- Team leadership: Experience leading DevOps or infrastructure engineers, setting priorities, giving feedback, and supporting their development.
- AWS: Strong hands-on experience with EC2, RDS/MySQL, VPC, CloudFront, WAF, IAM, CloudWatch, and S3.
- Linux and Docker: Strong production administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Infrastructure as code and automation: Practical experience with CloudFormation, Bash or Python, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Reliability: Experience with monitoring, incident response, backup restoration, recovery planning, and safe production changes.
- Security: A good understanding of infrastructure security, access control, patching, vulnerability management, and web traffic protection.
- Technical judgment: The ability to explain tradeoffs, prioritize risks, and choose solutions appropriate to the team’s size and needs.
- Ownership: The ability to turn broad objectives into clear plans and follow work through to completion.
- Communication: Clear documentation and English sufficient to lead technical discussions and coordinate incident response.
- AI-assisted tools: Comfort using AI-assisted engineering tools where appropriate.
Helpful additional experience
- Operating infrastructure for healthcare or other products with sensitive data and compliance requirements.
- Growing a small DevOps team.
- Improving an existing production environment while supporting ongoing product delivery.
