Business Analyst (Data and Reporting, Financial Services)
About the role. We are looking for a Business Analyst specialising in data and reporting to work on data-platform programmes for regulated financial-services clients. These programmes rebuild a clientβs regulatory, management and operational reporting on a modern data platform: several hundred reports, tens of source systems and many business owners. You turn business needs into clear, testable requirements, build the inventory of reports and data flows, and help the client establish who owns which data and who decides on definitions. You work both in the initial assessment and in delivery teams.
Responsibilities
β’ Plan and run stakeholder interviews and workshops with business owners, reporting and data teams, compliance, finance and operations; record requirements, decisions and open questions.
β’ Build and maintain the report catalogue: purpose, audience, owner, frequency, sources, criticality and priority; identify duplicate, unused and conflicting reports and candidates for rationalisation.
β’ Map data flows from source systems through the data platform to reports, and identify critical data elements behind regulatory and key business reports.
β’ Map data ownership and decision rights; document business definitions, KPIs and metrics in a business glossary; surface conflicting definitions for resolution.
β’ Contribute to the target operating model for a data office or data-governance function (roles, forums, processes).
β’ In delivery: write requirements, business rules and acceptance criteria for each increment, including data-cleansing and reconciliation expectations; support user acceptance testing and parallel running.
β’ Use AI tools to accelerate requirements analysis and documentation, and verify all AI-assisted output before it is shared or approved.
β’ Help prioritise and group reports and data domains into deliverable increments with the solution architect.
Requirements
β’ Five or more years as a business or data analyst in financial services (banking, insurance, wealth or asset management), on data, reporting or data-migration programmes.
β’ Proven experience producing report inventories, data-flow maps, requirements and acceptance criteria.
β’ Understanding of data-governance concepts: ownership, stewardship, business glossary, critical data elements, data quality.
β’ Working knowledge of regulatory and management reporting in financial services and the data it depends on.
β’ Able to read a data model and a Power BI report and ask the right questions; good working SQL for verifying data.
β’ Strong facilitation skills with business and technical stakeholders at all levels.
β’ Understanding of how AI can support business analysis and reporting work, for example requirements and documentation drafting, report-inventory analysis and AI-assisted reporting, and of the review and data-protection controls it requires in regulated environments.
β’ Excellent written and spoken English.
Nice to have
β’ Experience in setting up a data office or data-governance function (DAMA-DMBOK or similar framework).
β’ Experience of report migration and rationalisation programmes.
β’ Experience in UK financial services and FCA reporting or Consumer Duty evidence.
β’ Familiarity with Azure, Databricks, data catalogues (Unity Catalog, Microsoft Purview) or BI tools.
β’ CBAP, IIBA or BCS business-analysis certification.
β’ Willingness to work on site at client premises (including in the UK) for periods of several weeks.
Tools: Power BI, SQL, Jira or Azure DevOps, Confluence, Excel, process and data-flow modelling tools (Visio, draw.io or similar).
