Hardware Test Engineer

$$$
🪖 DefTech Product

The role

You will own validation of our hardware from first prototype to serial production. Every board we ship goes to the front line, where a failure costs more than a warranty claim - your job is to find it first.

• Location: Kyiv, on-site

• Employment: full-time

• Reports to: R&D lead

Responsibilities

• Write test plans and procedures for new PCBs and devices: bring-up, functional, RF, power and environmental tests

• Bring up first prototypes and debug failures down to component level together with the design engineers

• Measure RF performance of LoRa/BLE links: output power, sensitivity, antenna matching (VNA), range tests in field conditions

• Characterize power consumption in sleep and active modes and verify battery life against the 6–12 month target

• Run environmental tests: temperature (−20…+50 °C), humidity, ingress, vibration and drop

• Validate seismic sensor channels: sensitivity, noise floor, false-alarm rate on reference signals

• Build and maintain test jigs and fixtures (pogo-pin beds, programming stations) and automate tests in Python

• Define end-of-line production tests and pass/fail criteria; train assembly staff to run them

• Keep test reports, failure logs and root-cause analyses that feed back into the next hardware revision

• Join field trials with units to confirm lab results under real conditions

Requirements

• 2+ years in hardware testing, validation or electronics R&D

• Degree in electronics, radio engineering, physics or equivalent hands-on experience

• Confident with lab equipment: oscilloscope, multimeter, lab PSU, electronic load, spectrum analyzer or SDR, VNA

• Read schematics and layouts; comfortable with SMD soldering and rework

• Understand embedded systems: microcontrollers (STM32 or similar), UART/SPI/I2C, flashing and debugging firmware

• Python for test automation and data processing

• Methodical: you document what you test, how, and what came out - so anyone can repeat it

• Ukrainian fluent; technical English for datasheets and standards

Nice to have

• RF test experience: LoRa, sub-GHz radio, link budget and antenna measurements

• Low-power design and current profiling (nA–mA range, e.g. Power Profiler, Joulescope)

• Experience with sensors and signal processing: accelerometers, piezo, seismic or acoustic

• Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 / IEC 60068 environmental testing or IP-rating tests

• Production test experience: ICT, end-of-line fixtures, yield tracking

• Drone electronics: Betaflight/ArduPilot, ELRS, ESCs

• Background in defense, security or industrial electronics

What we offer

• Work that ships to the front within weeks, not years - you see the effect of your tests directly

• Ownership of the test function: you set up the lab process and production test from the ground up

• Competitive salary, reviewed after probation

• Reservation from mobilization (бронювання) for employees

• Modern lab: VNA, spectrum analyzer, climate chamber, in-house CNC and prototyping

• Small team, short decision loop - direct access to the founder and R&D lead

• Budget for equipment, courses and conferences
