Team Lead / Senior Go Engineer
About GBSFO
GBSFO has been building software for its partners since 2011. We cover the full development cycle: design, implementation, quality assurance and release. We started out working with market leaders in telecommunications, and networking is still at the core of what we do. More than 80 specialists work across web and mobile development, UI/UX, QA automation, DevOps, NetOps and IT infrastructure.
About the Project
Our client is a network security product company. Its segmentation engine finds devices on enterprise networks and enforces access policies. The engine is distributed edge software that runs as an on-prem virtual appliance.
We’re building a new team inside the client’s engineering organization. The core team hardens the existing network segmentation. This new team extends what the engine can discover and enforce: new environments, new enforcement points and new integrations.
You’ll be among the first engineers on this team, and Go is its main language. We’re hiring at Team Lead or Senior Engineer level, depending on your experience. Either way the role is hands-on. At Team Lead level you also build and lead the team.
Responsibilities
- Design and write production Go code. Python is used for tooling and integrations.
- Own features end-to-end, from technical design to production deployment.
- Agree boundaries and API contracts with the core engine and cloud backend teams.
- Take features from the lab to general availability, including conformance testing and safe rollouts.
- Operate and debug what you ship in production.
- Review code and keep the quality bar high.
- Team Lead level: hire, onboard and grow engineers. Run intake with product managers and keep a groomed, prioritized backlog. Set up team processes and represent the team to the client’s engineering director and product leadership.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years in backend or systems engineering, with strong production Go. You write Go today.
- Solid grasp of concurrency, performance and debugging in long-running services.
- Production ownership: you’ve been responsible for software running in real customer environments.
- Clear technical communication. You can discuss scope with product management and explain trade-offs.
- High quality standards: tests, reviews, careful rollouts.
- English at B2 or higher. You’ll work directly with the client’s engineering and product leadership.
- Team Lead level: 2+ years leading engineers, including hiring and mentoring. You can talk about your hiring successes and failures.
Required: at least one of the following
We only consider applications that show at least one of these. Please say clearly in your CV or cover note which one applies to you.
- Networking fundamentals: L3/L4, flows, connection tracking, firewall behavior.
- Experience at a security or networking vendor.
- Hands-on work with infrastructure platforms beyond networking.
- Working knowledge of Python or Java alongside Go.
- You have built an engineering team from its first hire.
Your First 90 Days
- A working map of the engine’s internals and its subsystem boundaries.
- Your first feature running in the lab.
- Agreed API contracts with the neighboring teams.
- Team Lead level: team charter, intake path and priority tiers agreed with the engineering director, plus a hiring and onboarding plan.
Why Join
- A small senior team with high trust and little ceremony. The culture values ownership, rigor and patience over quick fixes.
- A product with real technical depth in network security.
- Room to grow: a strong Senior can step into the Team Lead role as the team grows.
- GBSFO’s networking domain classes, open to everyone at the company.
Before you apply
The profile is narrow. Applications without strong production Go and at least one item from the required list won’t be reviewed.
