Technical Research Consultant (Identity Verification)

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Technical Research Consultant with a strong developer background to join the product team. You will explore new identity verification and biometric vendors, and build proof-of-concept solutions that show how each vendor could work within our Client’s platform. Your findings, demos, and recommendations will directly shape the product team's decisions on which technologies to adopt.

We expect a new team member to work independently and proactively: discover information on their own when documentation is incomplete, dig into unfamiliar APIs, and turn research into clear, well-argued conclusions. Strong communication skills are essential, since you will present results to the product team and work closely with US-based colleagues.

The ideal candidate must move quickly from an identity-verification concept to evidence. Find the right providers and data sources, test them hands-on, document market and regulatory constraints, and give Product clear recommendations backed by working prototypes and traceable research.

General project description

The project offers a biometric-based identity verification and passwordless multi-factor authentication (MFA) platform with a privacy-by-design architecture centered around a private and permissioned distributed ledger. The platform generates a non-phishable multi-factor authentication credential for employees while giving customers a convenient passwordless option for strong authentication to prevent fraud. Because all personally identifiable information (PII) is public/private key encrypted and the user maintains sole possession and access to the private key without third-party intermediaries, PII is always stored and managed in compliance with data privacy mandates and is never exposed in the clear. The platform's innovative architecture combines live biometrics, machine verification of government credentials, a portable digital identity wallet, a private, permissioned ledger, and verified reusable digital credentials. Combined, these capabilities eliminate the identity gap in conventional Single Sign-On (SSO) and MFA. They remove the compromise between security and convenience by reducing transaction friction while verifying identity at every access or service request. An immutable chain of custody provides tamper-evident digital identity and verified credentials for unmatched trust.

The size and the structure of the team

You will be a part of the product team, working closely with product managers and engineers on the client side.

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • Strong hands-on experience consuming third-party APIs and SDKs. You can go from documentation to a working test without needing a full engineering team.
  • Comfort with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or a similar scripting language, plus REST/JSON, OAuth or API-key authentication, Postman, curl, Git, and basic cloud tooling.
  • Excellent technical research skills and the discipline to distinguish primary evidence, independent testing, vendor marketing claims, and your own conclusions.
  • Experience translating ambiguous business questions into structured evaluation criteria and defensible recommendations.
  • Strong written communication. Your research should be concise enough for an executive while detailed enough for an engineer to reproduce the work.
  • Experience presenting technical findings to Product, walking Engineering through API test results, and discussing regulatory constraints with Security or Compliance.
  • High agency and comfort working independently in an environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Dependable collaboration overlap with the U.S. Eastern time zone.
  • Experience in identity verification, KYC/KYB, fraud prevention, biometrics, digital identity, cybersecurity, fintech, payments, or trust and safety.
  • English level - B2-Π‘1

Skills that will be a plus:

  • Familiarity with government eID programs, mobile driver licenses, authoritative identity data, document verification, or identity-assurance standards.
  • Experience evaluating biometric, liveness, presentation-attack, deepfake, or document-fraud technology.
  • Experience researching international privacy, data-residency, consent, identity, or digital-government requirements.
  • Experience building AI-assisted research agents, monitoring pipelines, web-scraping or change-detection workflows, or other research automation.
  • Prior work in consulting, product management, solutions engineering, technical product research, or technical competitive intelligence.

Previous experience preferred: Identity verification, authentication, KYC / AML, or fintech solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research identity verification, eID, document verification, biometric and fraud-detection vendors, with a focus on regions where global providers have weak coverage (e.g., Southeast Asia).
  • Integrate vendor APIs and SDKs in sandbox environments and build lightweight PoCs to show how each solution works, how hard it is to integrate and where it fails.
  • Assess whether vendors are production-ready, including onboarding, approvals, licensing, geographic restrictions and commercial terms.
  • Research country-specific identity ecosystems (e.g., Singpass and other national eIDs), plus the regulatory and privacy constraints that affect integration.
  • Monitor vendor coverage, API changes and new document templates, and automate routine research where possible.
  • Build vendor scorecards and recommend whether to integrate, partner or defer, backed by clear evidence.
  • Present findings and demos to Product, Engineering and Compliance stakeholders.

Example first tasks: evaluating Plaid-like bank verification providers, researching Singpass and other national eIDs, testing document verification vendors for Southeast Asia, and prototyping deepfake detection tools.
