DevOps Engineer (Middle/Senior) AWS — US Product Company

About the company

Our partner is a US-based product company that builds software for visualizing and managing specialized leave/vacation types. Their solution is used internally by teams at companies like IBM, Adobe, Meta, Google, and others.

The team currently has one DevOps engineer, and the company is growing the function — we’re hiring a second specialist to join a well-established setup.

Engineering here runs at a steady, predictable pace: no fires, no chaotic incidents, clear processes, and NO on-call rotation.
 

Main Responsibilities

– Design, implement, and manage scalable, reliable, and cost-effective AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), ensuring solutions align with best practices for security, performance, and availability
– Develop, maintain, and continuously optimize CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) to automate build, test, and deployment processes
– Set up monitoring and alerting (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog) to track application and infrastructure performance; analyze metrics to fine-tune systems; troubleshoot production issues to maintain high availability
– Implement and manage security measures — IAM policies, encryption, VPC configuration, and access controls — and ensure compliance with industry standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001) through regular audits and vulnerability scans
– Monitor applications and infrastructure for security incidents, and respond promptly to contain, remediate, and document threats
– Work closely with software engineers to integrate security best practices into the SDLC, and stay current on emerging threats and trends
– Design and implement disaster recovery and high-availability strategies; regularly test and update these plans
– Perform routine system audits and proactive maintenance (patching, capacity planning, dependency upgrades) to prevent outages
– Collaborate cross-functionally with development, QA, product, and design teams
– Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manual work
– Coordinate with the VP of Engineering on infrastructure and security strategy
– Create and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and best practices
– Participate in regular internal and company-wide meetings
 

Mandatory Requirements

– 4+ years of hands-on experience in a DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering role in a commercial environment
– Strong working experience with AWS across core services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, Lambda, CloudWatch, Route 53), including designing for availability, security, and cost efficiency
– Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally CloudFormation (Terraform is also acceptable), including module design, state management, and safe change workflows
– Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines end-to-end (build, test, deploy), with hands-on use of GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or a comparable tool
– Solid experience with Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes or ECS), including image hygiene, resource limits, and deployment strategies
– Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language used for automation (Bash, Python, or Go)
– Practical experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting stacks (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, ELK) and using them to drive down MTTR
– Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (VPCs, subnets, load balancers, DNS, firewalls/security groups) and how they affect application security and performance
– Applied understanding of security best practices for cloud and application infrastructure, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, and least-privilege access (IAM)
– Proficiency in Git for version control, including branching, merging, pull requests, and code review practices
– Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to stay calm and methodical during production incidents
– Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain infrastructure and security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
 

Will be a plus:

– Experience with serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB) as a complement to traditional infrastructure
– Advanced container orchestration experience with Kubernetes or ECS (autoscaling, service mesh, or multi-cluster operations)
– Expertise in AWS cost management and optimization (Cost Explorer, Trusted Advisor, Cost and Usage Reports)
– Experience with AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to accelerate code generation, automate testing, and enhance troubleshooting workflows
– Advanced security tooling and compliance automation, including hands-on SOC 2 Type II / ISO 27001 audit experience (evidence collection, control mapping)
– Experience with identity/authentication infrastructure (e.g., Auth0, SSO/SAML/OIDC integration)
