Project Context: The final client is a U.S.-based independent insurance brokerage serving ultra-high-net-worth clients with Private Placement Variable Annuities (PPVA) and Private Placement Life Insurance (PPLI). We are building a mobile application that provides clients with secure access to policies, statements, documents, and self-service capabilities. The BA will bridge the existing web-based client portal (WordPress/MySQL stack) and the new native mobile product that initially should duplicate web portal functionality, but in the next phases new functionality would be needed. The BA will be responsible for the requirements specification and project documentation creation, aligning the web portal and mobile application in terms of functionality and ensuring clear guidance for the external back-end team (creators of the web portal) for the requested changes needed for the mobile app.
Engagement Type: Contract, part-time involvement, initially for 3-6 months. The specific number of hours required would be clarified later. Initial engagement for the first 1-3 weeks could be close to full-time involvement, but further engagement during the project is expected to be less than 0.5 FTE per week.
Location: Remote (CEST/EST overlap preferred for client sync)
Client Industry: Insurance brokerage, regulated financial services (SOC 2 Type II, NYSDFS compliance environment)
Start Date: End of October of 2026 (subject to contract signature)
Requirements (ideal scenario, ready to consider candidates that match 75% of the requirements):
- Domain Experience
3+ years as BA in fintech, insurance, or regulated financial services (banking, wealth management, brokerage).
Demonstrated understanding of client portal โ mobile app migration patterns (what works on web โ what works on mobile, especially with tables and reports).
Experience working with ultra-HNW or B2B2C client bases where UX must balance simplicity with compliance disclosures.
- Technical Proficiency
Cross-platform mobile platforms: iOS and Android design patterns, platform-specific constraints (biometrics, push notifications, offline-first architecture).
API-driven product thinking: the mobile app will consume APIs from the existing portal backend - must be able to spec API contracts, data models, error states, and edge cases.
Legacy system integration: must be able to assess what can be exposed via API vs. what needs re-architecture.
- Requirements Elicitation & Documentation
Proven ability to run discovery workshops with non-technical stakeholders (insurance advisors, compliance officers, C-suite) and translate business needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and edge-case matrices.
Document clarity under regulatory scrutiny: requirements must be audit-ready (The client operates under SOC 2 + NYSDFS โ every decision needs a paper trail).
- Stakeholder Management
Multi-stakeholder alignment: Involvement of several decision-makers + likely compliance/legal functions in review loops. BA must navigate competing priorities without being a bottleneck.
Client-facing communication: must be able to present findings, trade-offs, and recommendations directly to the client in structured, concise formats in English..
Experience working within vendor-client dynamics (not internal product teams) โ knows when to push back, when to escalate, when to adapt scope.
